Faisons le point.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Founder Mode\u00a0\u00bb. Deux mots qui font des \u00e9tincelles dans l&rsquo;univers de la gestion. \u00c0 l&rsquo;origine, cette expression est le titre d&rsquo;un <a href=\"https:\/\/paulgraham.com\/foundermode.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">article de blogue<\/a> publi\u00e9 en septembre dernier par Paul Graham, un entrepreneur bien connu dans la Silicon Valley, notamment pour \u00eatre \u00e0 l&rsquo;origine du c\u00e9l\u00e8bre acc\u00e9l\u00e9rateur de jeunes pousses Y Combinator, dont sont issues des entreprises comme Airbnb, Stripe, Dropbox ou Reddit.<\/p>\n<p>Dans cette publication, il relate l&rsquo;intervention r\u00e9cente de Brian Chesky, le cofondateur de Airbnb, devant la cohorte d&rsquo;entrepreneurs de son acc\u00e9l\u00e9rateur. Ce dernier raconte comment il a repris les r\u00eanes de son entreprise, apr\u00e8s une phase de flottement o\u00f9 elle s&rsquo;\u00e9tait fortement bureaucratis\u00e9e. Les r\u00e9unions et les embauches se multipliaient alors que l&rsquo;application, elle, stagnait.<\/p>\n<p>Le probl\u00e8me selon lui ? On lui avait conseill\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0d\u2019embaucher des personnes de qualit\u00e9 et de leur laisser de l\u2019espace pour qu\u2019elles puissent faire leur travail\u201d. Son mod\u00e8le pour changer les choses : Apple et le leadership de Steve Jobs, tr\u00e8s impliqu\u00e9 dans les d\u00e9tails de son organisation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Founder mode vs Manager mode<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Un discours qui interroge Paul Graham : pourquoi tant de personnes pr\u00e9conisent aux fondateurs ce qu\u2019il ne faut pas faire ? La r\u00e9ponse est limpide selon lui : il existe deux fa\u00e7ons de diriger une entreprise. Soit en \u00ab\u00a0mode gestionnaire\u00a0\u00bb, soit en \u00ab\u00a0mode fondateur\u00a0\u00bb. <\/p>\n<p>Le premier est largement le plus r\u00e9pandu car c&rsquo;est celui qui est enseign\u00e9 dans les universit\u00e9s et dans les livres. Il consiste \u00e0 laisser de l&rsquo;autonomie \u00e0 ses \u00e9quipes afin qu&rsquo;elles cherchent et trouvent les solutions par elles-m\u00eames. \u00ab\u00a0Il ne faut surtout pas se m\u00ealer des d\u00e9tails de leur travail, cela serait de la micro-gestion, ce qui est mal\u201d, ironise-t-il.<\/p>\n<p>Sauf que pour lui, c&rsquo;est une impasse. Et il le dit de mani\u00e8re radicale : \u00ab\u00a0cela revient \u00e0 en effet \u00e0 embaucher des \u00ab\u00a0professional fakers\u00a0\u00bb qui vont mener l&rsquo;entreprise \u00e0 sa perte\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Dans un cadre entrepreneurial, il pr\u00e9conise plut\u00f4t ce \u00ab\u00a0mode fondateur\u00a0\u00bb qui consiste, de mani\u00e8re toutefois plus floue, \u00e0 ne pas s&rsquo;int\u00e9resser qu&rsquo;\u00e0 sa hi\u00e9rarchie directe mais aux r\u00e9alisations concr\u00e8tes des \u00e9quipes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pol\u00e9mique<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Il n&rsquo;en fallait pas plus pour d\u00e9cha\u00eener les passions en ligne. Certains se positionnant en soutien de cette prise de position, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1830388967792849324\" target=\"_blank\">comme Elon Musk<\/a>, l&rsquo;arch\u00e9type m\u00eame de ce mode de gestion. D&rsquo;autres, au contraire, se pla\u00e7ant en opposition frontale. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p><em>\u201cLe \u201cFounder mode\u201d est le dernier mot cl\u00e9 de la Silicon Valley pour dire aux patrons toxiques qu\u2019ils sont g\u00e9niaux,\u201d<\/em> ass\u00e8ne ainsi <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2024\/09\/11\/business\/founder-mode-meaning-vs-manager-nightcap\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Allison Morrow, journaliste \u00e0 CNN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Le danger selon eux ? Entra\u00eener une culture n\u00e9faste en mettant sur un pi\u00e9destal les adeptes de ce type de gestion. Car, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/alisacohn\/2024\/09\/17\/you-dont-have-to-be-a-founder-to-get-into-founder-mode\/\" target=\"_blank\">comme le souligne Forbes<\/a>, ce \u00ab\u00a0mode fondateur\u00a0\u00bb n&rsquo;est pas limit\u00e9 qu&rsquo;aux seuls fondateurs. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>Si vous \u00eates un dirigeant qui n&rsquo;est pas un fondateur, plut\u00f4t que de d\u00e9l\u00e9guer et de supposer que tout est pris en charge, examinez de plus pr\u00e8s ce qui se passe. Vous devez comprendre ce qui se passe dans votre organisation \u00bb, indique Frank Blake, l&rsquo;ancien PDG et pr\u00e9sident de Home Depot.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Au-del\u00e0 du c\u00f4t\u00e9 binaire et un peu caricatural du d\u00e9bat, les multiples r\u00e9actions montrent qu&rsquo;une corde sensible a \u00e9t\u00e9 touch\u00e9e autant du c\u00f4t\u00e9 des salari\u00e9s que des gestionnaires.
