{"id":79992,"date":"2020-12-01T07:58:25","date_gmt":"2020-12-01T12:58:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/isarta.com\/news\/?p=79992"},"modified":"2020-12-30T15:54:13","modified_gmt":"2020-12-30T20:54:13","slug":"dossier-fatigue-zoom-1-3-lepuisement-se-confirme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/isarta.com\/news\/dossier-fatigue-zoom-1-3-lepuisement-se-confirme\/","title":{"rendered":"Zoom series [1-3] : fatigue confirmed"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>More than a trendy keyword, \u00ab Zoom fatigue \u00bb does, in fact, exists.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the Robert Half firm\u2019s recent poll, a non-negligible number of workers are subject to backlashes from the systematic recourse to video conference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s talk about abuse first. According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/rh-us.mediaroom.com\/2020-11-12-Nearly-4-In-10-Workers-Are-Suffering-From-Video-Call-Fatigue-Robert-Half-Research-Shows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rober Half poll<\/a>, one out of four workers affirms spending half of his teleworking hours in video conferences. Half of them!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Considering an average working day lasts for height hours, this means that a fourth of workers spend four hours a day conversing with people on video applications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All of this through a poor image quality, an uneven sound (technical issues are the most raised complaints against video conferences, for 28% of the interrogated people), and frequent interruptions from different people present at these meetings (the second complaint is the presence of too many interlocutors and the cacophony it creates, for 19% of people).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the end of the week, we count 20 hours of those somewhat debilitating interactions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These effects are inevitably felt. Here are some of the poll\u2019s results :<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">38% said they&#8217;ve experienced video call fatigue since the start of the pandemic.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">26% noted that the practicality and novelty of videoconferencing has worn off<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">24% confirmed they find virtual meetings inefficient and exhausting and prefer to communicate via other channels, like email or phone<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More women (47%) than men (32%) said they&#8217;re tired of videoconferencing<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Well intentioned at first<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since the pandemic started, most of the organisations opted for an extreme security and followed governmental recommandations, asking their employees to stay home, even when a return to the office was allowed at a 25% occupancy rate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this scenario, all communications have to be virtually held.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Individual meetings, team get-together, lunch-and-learns, end of the day 5@7, team-building and socialisation activities&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the face of the coming winter and the increasing number of Covid-19 cases, in Quebec and elsewhere, the belief is that the population is entering a new social distancing season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Companies have to think of how they use video conference.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab Video calls became the go-to way for professionals to connect, collaborate and build rapport at the start of the pandemic<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Paul McDonald, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">senior executive director of Robert Half, explains.
