JOB SUMMARY:

To provide support to Sagamok Anishnawbek on communications in print, media, and community-based consultation.

POSITION DUTIES:

  • Report on community events through submission of articles, pictures, and interviews.
  • Coordinate activities for quality distribution of a community-based newsletter on a monthly basis.
  • Work with team on coordination and preparation of an annual report for the AGM/community forum.
  • Network and build relations with various media outlets and contacts to promote issue-driven messages and news releases.
  • Research and monitor First Nations news stories and information and distribute to management, staff, First Nation's leaders, and staff via e-newsletter.
  • Work with the team on all media channels to coordinate the delivery with the website as the central hub.
  • Maintain Sagamok Anishnawbek's email list and deliver high quality external marketing campaigns to complement the team's use of all other media channels
  • Learn how to use and perform print jobs on in-office equipment.
  • Remain informed of issues affecting Sagamok Anishnawbek and community members and tribal council affiliation.
  • Maintain Sagamok's photo library and coordinate activities for internal sharing with departments and external sharing with community.
  • Research new and existing documentation relevant to advancing communication efforts, issues and concerns and professional development.
  • Work with assigned departments as their communications representative.
  • Support Sagamok Anishnawbek's Political Office; attend Chief & Council meetings, develop written and digital communications for community outreach and public distribution.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Valid driver's license and vehicle for on-the-job use.
  • Hybrid Role with an average of 2.5 days onsite and 2.5 days home-based.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and attend evening and weekend events as required
  • Sign and maintain an annual oath of confidentiality.
  • Secure and maintain certification in Privacy and Confidentiality.
  • Must provide a criminal record check prior to commencing employment.
  • The incumbent is subject to six months' probation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum qualifications are a post-secondary diploma/degree in communications, journalism and/or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years' direct experience in communications.
  • Superior grammatical and written skills, for reports and articles.
  • Superior skills with IT tools such as Adobe Creative Suite and MS Office.
