Job description:

We are currently seeking a Junior to Intermediate Air & Emissions Specialist.

The emissions team at Horizon has established themselves as key subject matter experts in the carbon compliance field, specifically in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia. We support clients in mitigating their carbon exposure and identify strategies to mitigate liabilities within multiple regulatory requirements. We recognize that success in this field is primarily due to on-the-job learning and will prioritize self-starters that have a strong drive for learning.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the Junior to Intermediate Air & Emissions Specialist including the following:

  • Collect data and quantify greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for reporting to the BC Greenhouse Gas
  • Emission Reporting Regulation, Alberta Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) Regulation, Saskatchewan Output Based Performance Standards (OBPS) and Environment Canada GHG Reporting Program.
  • Collect data and quantify emissions for reporting to the National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI).
  • Provide guidance and educate clients on the uses and importance of inventory input data. Collaborate with key data users (i.e., Production Accounting, Operations, Measurement and Engineering) in the identification and development of processes to improve data quality and efficiencies.
  • Follow the development of regulatory changes relevant that could materially impact results and provide assessment of potential impacts.
  • Support in the evaluation of carbon compliance and carbon tax forecasting.
  • Calculate benzene emissions from glycol dehydrators using GRI-GLYCalc, generate DEOS and prepare the annual dehydrator inventory as per Alberta Energy Regulator Directive 039.
  • Support in other regulatory reporting obligations, including methane reduction (Alberta AER D060, BC, SK OGEMR), emission standards (Federal MSAPR), AEIR reporting, EPEA Monthly Air Reports, Waste Discharge Permit Reporting, AMD and CEMS Code Quality Assurance Plans.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Environmental Science or Engineering Degree (or relevant diploma/degree from a credible institution) or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in quantification and reporting under NPRI, BC GHG reporting, AB TIER, SK OBPS.
  • Solid understanding of upstream, midstream and oil sands operations is an asset.
  • Strong MS Office skills, particularly in data management and analysis.
  • Excellent communication, writing, organizational, computer and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and have a willingness to succeed within a team environment.
  • Excellent project management and team leadership skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Be a self-starter who takes ownership for tasks and team performance, and proactively seeks out ways to better address our clients' needs.
  • Motivated learner, including staying current on evolving internal standards/requirements.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity.

Location:

Horizon Compliance is located in Calgary, Alberta. The position is a hybrid position. Successful candidate must reside in Calgary.
