Waste Control Services (WCS) is a privately owned recycling and waste management company serving residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional clients across the Greater Vancouver region. For over 30 years, WCS has delivered reliable waste collection, recycling, and sustainability solutions to municipalities and businesses while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, service excellence, and environmental responsibility.

We operate from our head office and shop in Coquitlam, BC, with additional recycling yards in North Vancouver, where we process materials collected from our customers and operate a community recycling and secure shredding facility.

As our organization continues to grow, we are seeking a Vice President of Operations to provide strategic leadership across all operational divisions.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Vice President of Operations provides executive leadership and strategic direction across all operational functions of Waste Control Services, including fleet operations, dispatch, container maintenance, recycling yard operations, and customer service delivery.

This role is responsible for the overall operational performance of the company's multi-site operations in Coquitlam and North Vancouver, ensuring efficiency, safety, regulatory compliance, and financial performance. The VP of Operations will lead operational strategy, mentor the management team, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and support the company's long-term growth.

Working closely with the President and Chief Financial Officer, this role plays a critical part in shaping operational strategy, strengthening service delivery, and ensuring the organization continues to operate safely, efficiently, and profitably.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide executive oversight of daily operations across multiple facilities.
  • Lead fleet, dispatch, maintenance, and recycling yard operations to ensure service reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure fleet and maintenance programs comply with CVSE, ICBC, and National Safety Code regulations.
  • Develop and execute operational strategies aligned with company growth objectives.
  • Lead long-term operational planning including fleet replacement, infrastructure development, and facility expansion projects.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through operational improvements and technology.
  • Oversee operational budgeting and financial performance.
  • Monitor key operational metrics including service delivery performance, labor efficiency, and cost management.
  • Analyze operational data to support strategic decision-making.
  • Lead safety initiatives across all operational departments. Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC, CVSE, ICBC, and municipal regulatory requirements.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop operational teams including managers, supervisors, dispatch, shop managers, and yard leads.
  • Implement performance management frameworks and accountability systems.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key customers, including municipal partners and commercial clients.
  • Lead major operational initiatives including fleet acquisitions, facility improvements, and operational systems implementation.

QUALIFICATIONS

7-10+ years of senior leadership experience in operations, preferably within waste management, transportation, logistics, industrial operations, or other essential service industries.

Experience overseeing multi-site operations and large workforce teams.

Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, P&L, and operational forecasting.

Strong knowledge of transportation and road safety regulations including ICBC, CVSE, and National Safety Code (NSC).

Experience working with operational systems such as UKG, Salesforce, TRUX, or other CRM/ERP platforms.

Proven ability to lead large teams, mentor managers, and drive operational performance.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate operational data into strategic action.

Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to build relationships across teams and with external stakeholders.

What We Offer

  • Compensation: Base Salary: $150,000 - $170,000 annually.
