Marketing Assistant

Food Banks Mississauga's vision is a Mississauga where everyone is food secure. Our mission is to lead our agency network to realize a food-secure Mississauga by providing and promoting access to healthy and appropriate food.
We are looking for two separate summer placements for the Marketing Assistant role.
Objectives
- Put your theoretical knowledge in digital marketing, journalism, photography, image arts, or film studies into action in a busy non-profit. Use the opportunity to work with and learn from experienced non-profit professionals.
Responsibilities
Conduct Interviews and Capture Footage
- Source food bank visitor, volunteer, and supporter stories to use in organizational marketing and fundraising materials by conducting interviews at Food Banks Mississauga, our agency members, and over the phone.
- Capture and edit individual portraits of interview subjects to accompany food bank visitor, volunteer, and supporter stories in digital and print marketing and/or fundraising materials and on social media.
- Approach each interview with empathy and sensitivity and practice active listening.
- Transcribe interview recordings and ensure all files are appropriately edited, sorted, and logged on Google Drive.
- Track the use of images, videos and stories used in promotional and campaign materials and manage overall stories and waivers library.
- Create blog posts from interviews conducted as directed by the Marketing Coordinator.
Create Digital Content
- Ideate, create and/or capture content of volunteers, food bank visitors, supporters, and staff to be used for marketing and fundraising and/or training materials and on social media.
- Capture candid and posed photos of volunteers and staff to be used for marketing materials.
- Create video content and participate in shoots as directed by the Marketing Coordinator.
- Ensure all video footage and photos are appropriately edited, sorted, and logged on Google Drive.
- Track the use of images and videos used in promotional and campaign materials.
Other Marketing Tasks
- Assist in the creation of additional marketing materials (digital and otherwise) as needed.
- Support
other staff and activities of Food Banks Mississauga, as required.
- Additional projects as aligned with Food Banks Mississauga's operating plan for the year
Education and Experience
- Post-secondary education and/or experience at a non-profit, digital marketing, journalism, film studies, image arts or similar environment.
Skills, Competencies & Qualities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (with comfortability being on video).
- Excellent interview skills (active listening, asking questions to further conversation, approach with empathy and sensitivity).
- Ability to pay attention to detail, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Experience creating videos for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube, etc., leveraging the latest trends.
- Experience with photography and videography.
- Passionate and energized about social justice, community involvement, or similar causes.
- Flexible team player with versatile skills - you're highly motivated, self-directed, a problem-solver, and enjoy variety in your work.
- Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality at all times.
- Strong MS Office or G Suite skills (all programs) - we are a cloud-based paperless environment.
- Graphic design experience and knowledge of Adobe Suite (In Design, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro etc.) is an asset.
Mandatory Qualifications
To be eligible, applicants must:
- be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations

Reports to: Marketing Coordinator
Position Type: 35 hours/week, hourly
Working Hours: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am - 5 pm Wednesday from 9 am - 8 pm
Compensation: $27.20/hour
