The main French-language, professional theatre company in British Columbia, Théâtre la Seizième is an instigator of theatrical experiences and delivers contemporary programming that engages its collaborators, the artistic community, and its audiences. It has been catalyzing the development of the artistic landscape since 1974.
Our programming brings together francophones and francophiles of all ages through both a general-audience season and a youth season, along with drama workshops in schools and an artistic incubator that supports creative practice. This incubator includes professional development, resources, and dramaturgical support for performing artists.
START OF CONTRACT: August 24th, 2026
Summary of position:
Reporting to the Artistic and Managing Director, the Communications Manager of Théâtre la Seizième is self-sufficient, skilled in interpersonal communications, fluent in both French and English, and demonstrates initiative and creativity while effectively managing priorities.
Among other responsibilities, the Communications Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and analyzing the impact of communication and marketing plans and strategies; managing the website and social media platforms; overseeing public relations; and handling the planning of the communications budget.
As part of their role, the successful candidate will work closely with the existing team, particularly with the Audience Development Manager.
Summary of responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the company's communications plan and strategy, negotiate the season's partnerships.
- Ensure the production of necessary communication and promotional tools all season long, including for the season launch, particularly the brochure, the show assets, as well as the videos and photos.
- Develop content and manage the company's website and blog in collaboration with the webmaster, when necessary, as well as the company's social media.
- Write documents, articles, and various messages in both French and English, including show synopsis', monthly newsletter, press, show and touring kits, press releases and show programs.
- Manage press relations; negotiate prepare and manage media agreements; solicit and manage interview requests, pitch content ideas to media in line with the programming, compile press reviews and conduct media monitoring.
- Implement promotional campaigns for productions, including email marketing campaigns and targeted advertising campaigns.
- Measure the impact of marketing initiatives; conduct the necessary tracking and reporting and share the results with the Audience Development Manager.
- In line with the philanthropic strategy, develop and lead communications for annual fundraising campaigns in collaboration with the Artistic and Managing Director and the Administrative Director.
- Develop partnerships aimed at increasing the company's visibility and support the Audience Development Manager in strengthening these partnerships.
Requirement and professional experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in communications, arts, media, or a related field
- Minimum of two years of experience in a communications role
- Excellent writing skills
- Demonstrated abilities in communications and public relations, as well as managing relationships with community partners
- Proficient in French and excellent knowledge of English
- Experienced with managing and interpreting a budget
- Knowledge of and/or demonstrated interest in the artistic field, particularly in the performing arts
- Knowledge of minority francophone communities is an asset
- Graphic design and SEO skills are an asset
- Ability to work both as part of a team and independently
- Organized, proactive, creative, and strategic
- Hold a valid work permit in Canada
- Knowledge of the following software/applications is an asset: Google Workspace, Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Teams, etc...), social media, CRM platforms (Mailchimp, Brevo), CMS (WordPress), Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro), Google Analytics 4 and other marketing tools
- knowledge of AirTable and Tuxedo (or other ticketing software)
Working conditions:
- Full-time permanent contract with a 3-month probationary period; 35 hours per week; flexible hours
- Two weeks of holidays per year, three after 3 years of employment
