As part of the national CMHA Federation, CMHA Algoma works closely with municipalities, hospitals, schools, emergency services, community organizations, and other provincial partners to provide coordinated, responsive, and community-based care.

The Communications and Fundraising Specialist plays an important role in strengthening awareness, engagement, and financial sustainability across CMHA Algoma. This position supports the organization's mission by developing compelling communications, supporting community engagement, and advancing fundraising initiatives that help sustain programs and services for the people, families, and communities we serve.
In this role, the successful candidate will:
Lead and support integrated communications initiatives that increase awareness, reduce stigma, and promote CMHA Algoma's services, programs, and impact.
Support the development and implementation of diversified fundraising initiatives, including annual giving, sponsorships, community campaigns, and grant opportunities, in collaboration with executive leadership.
Support brand management, storytelling, and public messaging to ensure alignment with CMHA Algoma's mission, values, and strategic priorities.
Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, partners, funders, community stakeholders, and media contacts.
Coordinate fundraising campaigns and events, including planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Monitor and report on communications effectiveness, donor engagement, and fundraising results.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Communications and Fundraising Specialist is responsible for supporting CMHA Algoma's communications, brand, community engagement, and fundraising functions. The position contributes to public relations, digital communications, donor and stakeholder engagement, and revenue development activities, and works collaboratively across the organization and with executive leadership to enhance visibility, strengthen relationships, and support sustainable funding for service excellence.
The Communications and Fundraising Specialist also maintains accurate records, supports ethical and compliant fundraising practices, and works collaboratively with leadership and internal departments to support appropriate tracking, stewardship, and reporting. Success in this role will be reflected in stronger community awareness and engagement, effective and consistent public communications, and growth in fundraising and partnership opportunities that support CMHA Algoma's mission.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will bring:
A university degree or diploma in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
A minimum of 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in communications, fundraising, or a related field, preferably in the not-for-profit, healthcare, or public sector.
Demonstrated experience developing and implementing communications and/or fundraising strategies, campaigns, or initiatives.
Strong experience in communications planning, content development, media relations, and digital platforms.
Experience with donor relations, stewardship, and fundraising systems such as CRM databases.
Excellent writing, storytelling, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Knowledge of the local community, including media outlets, community organizations, health and social service networks, and key stakeholders, is considered a strong asset.
Experience building relationships with local journalists and securing media coverage to support awareness, advocacy, and fundraising initiatives is highly valued.
Strong analytical skills, including the ability to monitor, interpret, and report on engagement and fundraising metrics.
