ABOUT THE ROLE

OUR MISSION

At Branch Out, we drive transformative change in neurological research. Based in Calgary, Alberta, we fund and accelerate the science that helps the brain heal, stay resilient, and stay ahead of disease. For fifteen years, our community has directed more than $2.9 million to over 230 research projects at universities across Canada, all from a tiny, scrappy team with an outsized reach. Our values of compassion, open-mindedness, courage, and commitment fuel rigorous, high-quality research and a culture that bridges funding gaps, upholds scientific rigour, and brings cross-industry experts together to create real clinical impact.

OUR IMPACT

Branch Out funds research that closes the gap between promising science and everyday care. Through Branch Out's Integrative Research Framework, we support studies that look at the brain as part of the whole body, spanning nutrition and the microbiome, mind-body and rehabilitation, precision and preventative health, and neurotechnology. This work helps health-care providers, patients, and care partners make informed decisions across the full range of treatment options.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

Brand and marketing

  • Build our brand strategy and identity: shape how Branch Out looks, sounds, and shows up as we grow, and keep it consistent everywhere.
  • Own our communications and content: newsletters, social media, the website, and outreach to donors, community members, researchers, and partners, in the right voice for each audience and making complex science feel human.
  • Plan and run campaigns that turn each appeal, partnership, and milestone into a story that moves people to act.

Events

  • Lead our two flagship events end to end: the Bike Tour each June and Your Brain on Art, our gala each November.
  • Secure event sponsorship: identify, pitch, and steward sponsors and partners, and help hit the fundraising targets that make each event succeed.
  • Manage the logistics: vendors, participants, ticketing, and the experience on the day.

Community and stakeholder engagement

  • Build genuine relationships with donors, artists, riders, volunteers, and partners, the people at the heart of Branch Out.
  • Communicate clearly with supporters and team members to understand what they need and keep them close to our mission.

YOU ARE

  • Warm and relational: you build trust easily and know a grassroots community is held together one real conversation at a time.
  • A builder, not a maintainer: you want scope, ownership, and the chance to grow something, not a tidy lane to stay in.
  • A strong project manager: you own deadlines, track action items, and see complex projects like events and campaigns through end to end.
  • Self-directed and driven: you operate autonomously, take real initiative, and are motivated to make a visible impact, with a demonstrable track record to show for it.
  • Coachable and self-aware: you take feedback well, change course when it is right, and care more about the outcome than being right.
  • Tech and AI fluent: you reach for the tools that help a small team move like a big one, and you can show us something you have streamlined.
  • A strong communicator who writes and speaks clearly, and adapts the voice for each audience.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Compensation of $65,000 to $85,000, set with experience (mid-level to senior), with room to grow as the organization scales.
  • A contract role, full or part-time to start, with the intention of moving to permanent full-time employment for the right person.
  • A hybrid schedule with a few days each week together at our downtown coworking space.
  • Real ownership,
