GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

BILD Alberta is seeking a highly motivated, strategic-minded Director of Public Relations & Communications to play a vital role in advancing the Association's role in driving public education and policy change on matters impacting the industry, including housing affordability and attainability.

This individual will develop and lead the execution of multi-year communications and public engagement strategies to enhance advocacy efforts, member engagement, and public awareness. The Director will also oversee the organization's communications, including media relations, crisis communications, and government engagement, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and lead strategic communication initiatives to elevate BILD Alberta's advocacy on key issues, while strengthening relationships with external stakeholders including government officials, policymakers, media, and association members.
• Draft and implement a member communications plan and strategies to elevate brand awareness, highlight advocacy work and demonstrate value.
• Support the development of diverse content for various mediums, including: website, social media and newsletters.
• Write and edit communication documents including but not limited to press releases, annual reports, housing reports and policy briefings.
• Develop, monitor and analyze social media to facilitate engagement and increase brand / issue awareness.
• Maintain and develop strong relationships with media, journalists and non-traditional media partners.
• Support and collaborate with local associations.
• Provide tactical and communication support for Association events and awards.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in public relations, corporate communications, strategic communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Degree or diploma in communications, public relations, political science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in government relations, established stakeholder relationships, or not-for-profit advocacy is considered an asset.

• Demonstrated excellence in communications strategy development and execution.
• Ability to take initiative, lead with creativity and work independently.
• Demonstrated experience with social media tools including Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
• Knowledge of WordPress, Hootsuite, Zoom, Canva and Constant Contact.
• Proficient in MS Office 365
• Skills in graphic design and experience with Adobe Suite would be considered an asset but not a requirement.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Schedule of Monday to Friday in a hybrid work environment.
• Occasional attendance at evening and/or weekend events.
• Occasional travel in the Edmonton Region and across the province for meetings and events.

COMPENSATION

• Salary is dependent on experience and skill set.
