JOB DESCRIPTION

GENERAL FUNCTION

The Communications Manager will be responsible for delivering internal and external communications for the Momentum business and its umbrella of brands. They will work collaboratively with the PR agency to build the strategic roadmap of initiatives that will enhance the Money Mart narrative through the media landscape. These initiatives will elevate the company's reputation and brand perception through humanizing storytelling that builds awareness and trust. This energetic, innovative, self-starter is not one to accept the status quo or shy away from new challenges. They will have solid experience in PR, media relations, corporate communications, and crisis management but also loves getting their hands dirty in copy writing, editorial calendar development and social media management. The Communications Manager will also be responsible for driving strategic internal communications to increase engagement, and encourage a positive, high-performing culture. This position requires someone to be bold and highly creative to strategically position Money Mart with a unique story to drive affinity, ultimately helping the brand stand out in the crowded sub-prime lending space. The incumbent will work cross-functionally within the global organization and will report into the Head of Marketing in Canada.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Develop and own the overall comprehensive comms strategy and annual tactical initiatives, with the support of a PR agency and Head of Marketing.
  • Methodically manage the PR agency, including but not limited to, briefing the agency, oversight on hours used, budgets, strategy building, and execution.
  • Proactively oversee the Money Mart storytelling to reinforce brand vision, values and positioning that not only humanizes the everyday experience of our customers but builds brand affinity that ultimately drives incremental growth for the business.
  • Deliver day-to-day activities, including oversight of the media relations email account to ensure appropriate and timely responses to media inquiries.
  • Meticulous crisis management planning and execution to protect and enhance brand reputation through clear, impactful communications.
  • Work with agencies, as needed, on developing and executing content calendar for owned content (e.g. blog, long form articles, white papers, etc.) and owned social media accounts (e.g. Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, etc.)
  • Proactively build, manage, and/or strengthen relationships with key media outlets (independently or via PR agency) to execute backgrounders, secure interviews, and deliver high quality coverage of the Money Mart brand.
  • Create data-driven storytelling initiatives, messaging and press releases to showcase the business strategy, product innovations and partnerships.
  • Partner with Chief of Staff, HR and Operations on internal communications needs, utilizing best practices and effective distribution of information for the employee base.

QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of experience in journalism, corporate communications, copy writing, or content marketing.
  • Proven experience developing creative stories that build brand awareness through content, media interviews, influencers, press releases and organic social media campaigns.
  • Experience creatively writing, editing and managing blogs, articles, press releases, internal comms and social media posts.
  • Demonstrated knowledge driving consistent tone and voice internally and externally through communication channels to portray the businesses value and purpose - to help employees become brand ambassadors, while driving incremental growth through our current customers and prospects.
  • Proven effectiveness in presenting and influencing at the executive level and across functions.
  • Demonstrated track record of building strong relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Proven knowledge of the media relations landscape and strong existing relationships with key financial services and tech media and influencers is a plus.
  • Experience within the financial services industry is a plus.

  • Excellent copywriting and content creation skills.
  • Strong verbal communications skills; with a keen ability to collect and present differentiated and complex topics, bringing the subject to life.
  • Self-motivated, with strong organizational skills, attention to detail and project management skills, having an ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong initiative to drive results, solve problems and consistently follow through
  • Passionate, highly collaborative and calm under pressure to manage rapidly changing priorities.
  • Strong sense of ownership with commitment to delivering high-quality communications under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Proactive with a strong ability to prioritize, multi-task, manage deadlines and execute end-to-end ownership of programs and results
  • Understanding of the financial services industry landscape and market dynamics is a plus.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor degree required, preferably in Journalism or Communications.
