The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Media Relations & Social Media Manager to join our Communications team in Toronto. This is a full-time position.

The Media Relations and Social Media Manager is the single point of accountability comms professional fully responsible for leading all the direct interactions with tier 1 global media and guarantee alignment with national tier 1 media in the countries where we operate. They must bring a creative and strategic thinking to proactively develop and execute pitches to positioning company`s brand withing key media outlets, including mapping, managing and securing participation of executives in key events. The position requires a strong background in media relations and a strategic mind with the ability to bring stories to life and manage issues effectively working close to the Communication teams in our Operations.

Additionally, in this position you will:

Manage all media relations (including website) and social media for Base Metals

Develop strategy for overall visibility of Base Metals and senior executives on critical issues from sustainability to M&A

Manage other media relations professionals in dealing with tier 1 global media in the three regions where we operate.

Manage and develop relationships with key global tier 1 media reporters and influencers in the three regions company operate as well as local journalists in Canada

Draft reactive and proactive positioning on critical issues across the business

Deliver corporate announcements and positioning ? through writing and editing of press releases, communications strategies, speeches, digital and social media content.

Manage media monitoring (clipping), and analysis

Provide strategic advice and issues management support to senior leadership

Manage media and public speakers preparation and training for senior executives, including key messages and Q&A

Deliver effective crisis communications that protects the reputation of the business

Manage social media strategy and content for senior executives of Base Metals

About You

Education:

Undergraduate degree.

Minimum 11-15 years of relevant experience

Skills:

The ability to communicate to a professional standard in English (mastery Portuguese would be considered an asset)

More than 10 years of experience in communications/public relations, with significant experience in media relations for large companies or government. A background in journalism will be highly regarded.

Strong, creative copywriting skills across a range of styles including media releases, speeches, and social/digital content.

Experience in developing and executing communication strategies, for proactive initiatives and to manage issues.

Confident interpersonal skills, including a high level of discretion and diplomacy, and the ability to develop and sell ideas to senior leaders.
