Communications and Marketing Coordinator

Through the tremendous generosity of community, friends, and partners, the DGHF has positively impacted and supported the delivery of exceptional patient care at the Dartmouth General Hospital through more than $50 million dollars invested in equipment, facilities, and programs.

A trusted community anchor, the Dartmouth General Hospital (DGH) is a 24-hour emergency, inpatient medical, surgical and critical care facility providing services to approximately 120,000 people in Dartmouth, NS and surrounding areas.

Position Summary

The Communications and Marketing Coordinator is a service-minded self-starter with a passion for designing, a compelling writer, and able to deliver high-quality donor communications. Reporting to the Manager, Communications and Marketing and in close collaboration with the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation team, the Communications and Marketing Coordinator will be responsible for building, executing, and delivering marketing/communication services across multiple platforms to raise awareness of the Foundation and engage our current and prospective donors.

  • You have a desire to support your colleagues in their communications, writing, designing, and branding needs.
  • You are a self-starter, a very organized person with strong planning skills and you are able to manage multiple priorities at any given time.
  • Your time management skills are excellent. You meet deadlines and are results oriented.
  • You demonstrate an ability to adapt writing styles for various audiences and communications channels.
  • Experience working with outside contractors to create content (i.e. print, video, written, photo, billboards, murals, etc.).
  • You have digital communications skills, including content and asset development to maximize engagement, proposal writing, and stewardship writing (i.e. donor plaques, storytelling, etc.).
  • You bring experience developing and executing marketing campaigns.
  • You enjoy working in a team environment and you are a good communicator and a strong relationship builder.
  • You are comfortable interacting with a broad range of key contacts and can engage with staff, suppliers, donors, volunteers, hospital representatives and executives, to name a few.
  • You are discrete and can maintain confidential information.
  • You are good at information distillation, you can recognize, curate, and communicate relevant information related to donor motivations and interest.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring consistency of the DGH Foundation brand standards, image, and presentation in all materials.
  • Assisting in developing and implementing communications plans for specific fundraising events, campaigns, and initiatives.
  • Writing, editing, designing and producing a wide range of communications products with a focus on storytelling and strategic messaging.
  • Coordinating the development (design and content) and production of internal and external communications materials such as brochures and handbooks, event programs, newsletters, press releases, annual reports, templates, videos, posters, banners, and other promotional and fundraising material.
  • Supporting fundraising campaigns/events/initiatives including designated roles and coordinating logistics
  • Working with external resources as required and developing written communications as directed by the Manager, Communications and Marketing
  • Providing content, editorial assistance, proof-reading and input on development of corporate and donor correspondence and reports to ensure a consistent image.
  • Maintaining, monitoring, and updating design and content for the Foundation's website with the guidance of the Manager and web support.
  • Developing and maintaining editorial calendars and approval systems to ensure accurate, timely and approved communications.
  • Monitoring analytics and creating reports detailing trends of communications campaigns and programs.
  • Creating and posting content for all Foundation social media platforms, working with external resources as required
  • Working with the fundraising teams to ensure marketing and communications deliverables and requirements are clearly defined and delivered on time, on budget and on brand.
  • Proofreading and fact checking communications and marketing materials to ensure accuracy.
  • In collaboration with the Manager, Communications and Marketing, participate in brand-related strategic planning sessions, working closely with external agencies and internal stakeholders at the Foundation and hospital.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements for this Position

The successful candidate will have a post-secondary degree in public relations, marketing, or other related discipline.

Proficiency with In-Design, Canva or other design applications is required. Good technical skills including experience with online resources, Microsoft Office, social media platforms, and a willingness to learn and adapt to new fundraising platforms (Raiser's Edge) are considered a strong asset.

A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is required. The Communications and Marketing Coordinator may be required to work outside of regular business hours, with prior notice.

This is a permanent, full time position. The salary range is $45,000 - $55,000. Employee package includes a defined benefit pension plan, health and dental plans and an employee and family assistance plan.
