A position is open at the Smith School of Business to facilitate the Communications workshop in our Master of Management Analytics (MMA) program. This workshop takes place on June 2nd, 2024 and October 9th, 2024 with an additional session scheduled in November 2024 (date TBD). Delivery will be in person at Goodes Hall in Kingston, Ontario (June 2nd), SmithToronto (October 9th) and virtually (November). There is an asynchronous component to this workshop, which requires the development of material to be used online, for which Smith School of Business will provide a licensing agreement.

Although our preference is to have the same individual facilitate the in-person sessions and develop the asynchronous material, we will accept applications for each portion separately (i.e., in-person or asynchronous).

In today's data-driven world, technical acumen alone is not enough for success. Effective communication skills are equally as important for professionals to convey insights, influence decisions, and drive organizational impact. Our MMA Program focuses on developing data-driven leaders and does an excellent job at equipping students with business smarts and technical skills; however, communications skills are necessary to help transform data savviness into actually using data to make informed decisions, and it's a current gap in our program we are looking to address. The ability to tell a story is ultimately what will turn numbers into action and position our grads to be analytics leaders.

Key learning objectives include:

  • Presentations Skills: Students will learn how to structure presentations and develop public speaking ability.
  • Data storytelling: Students will learn how to most effectively present data insights to a non-technical audience.
  • Persuasion: Students will learn how to leverage persuasive appeals to build support for their ideas.
  • Communication Strategy: Students will learn how to effectively strategize and plan clear and concise communications (written and verbal). The framework will include context analysis, audience analysis and a repeatable process for establishing a coherent controlling idea.
  • Verbal and Nonverbal Communications: Students will learn how to leverage body language and voice (tone, pacing, register, etc.) to communicate effectively.
  • Personal Development: Students will receive feedback from instructor and will reflect on strengths/weaknesses to develop a personalized plan for ongoing improvement.

*These dates and times are fixed.

Compensation:
