Job Summary

As a part of Calgary Economic Development's Marketing & Communications team, the Marketing & Communication Specialist will work with internal clients, external vendors and the marketing and communications team to plan, execute and support CED events and activations for the overall purpose of promoting Calgary as the location of choice for business, investment and talent.

This is a 16 month full-time fixed term contract.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead or support signature events including Report to the Community and Economic Outlook. Manage other events and activations such as, but not limited to, conferences, sponsorships, announcements and internal events.
  • Work with internal clients to identify objectives for each project and create communicate, and manage project plans and work back schedules to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Utilize event software to execute virtual events and manage registration.
  • Write and develop content including descriptions, invites, signage and website copy specific to events.
  • Manage budget, track and process expenses related to assigned projects.
  • Evaluate the success of projects by tracking metrics and feedback, performing analysis and connecting with internal and external clients to communicate key results and learning.
  • Working within an annual budget, selects and orders marketing swag for events and the broader CED organization throughout the year.

Education

  • Post-secondary education or demonstrated experience in relevant field such as marketing or events.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a directly related area.

  • Experience working effectively in a fast-paced environment and during stressful periods, while maintaining a composed disposition
  • Proficient with Microsoft office applications, especially Outlook, Word, Excel and PPT. Experience with CRM, event software and financial systems is an asset.
  • Understanding of the local business environment, government, industry, culture and regulatory environment considered an asset
