JOB DESCRIPTION

Event Tourism Coordinator

Department Community Services

Hours of Work 40 hours per week

Rate of Pay $36.36 after probation

POSITION SUMMARY:

As an Event Tourism Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in attracting, planning, organizing, and

executing events and meetings that bring visitors to Dawson Creek. Under the Manager of Tourism,

Emergency, and Climate Readiness, you will leverage your creativity to develop engaging opportunities

that highlight the region's attractions and foster memorable visitor experiences. You will coordinate

logistics and build relationships to support all aspects of the meeting or event to ensure they align with

community and cultural interests. With a keen eye for detail and strong project management skills, you

will contribute to positioning our community as a premier destination for sporting events and meetings.

KEY DUTIES PERFORMED:

1. Responsible for event planning and management. Leading, planning, organizing, and executing

meetings, sport tourism and events.

2. Identifies business development opportunities for sport hosting, meetings, conferences, annual

general meetings, and corporate opportunities. Additionally, work with the accommodation sector

to provide support to the business travel sector.

3. Organizes meetings for event consultation and collaboration with different sectors, as required:

Hockey Canada, destination marketing agencies, local organizations, Sport BC, and the Dawson

Creek & District Chamber of Commerce.

4. Works in partnership with regional stakeholders including, but not limited to: RFABC, Northern BC

Tourism Association, Destination BC, Peace River Regional District, Northern Lights College, Dawson

Creek & District Chamber of Commerce, Indigenous Tourism BC, and regional visitor centres.

5. Supports the execution of plans such as the Dawson Creek Community Tourism Plan, the Official

Community Plan, and others as required.

6. Develops and maintains volunteer opportunities and facilitates volunteer recognition activities.

7. Attends and promotes Tourism Dawson Creek and event opportunities at conferences, grand openings

and tradeshows through creative capture, booths, and the provision of marketing materials.

8. Maintains an inventory of facilities, rental spaces, capacities, accommodation, and data/statistics

relating to bookings for meetings and events. Uses this inventory to coordinate logistics.

9. In partnership with other stakeholders, develop marketing strategies to promote events and attract

visitors, utilizing digital marketing tools, social media, and traditional advertising methods.

10. Supports stakeholders through the identification of grants, sponsorships or partnerships to amplify

and grow opportunities.

11. Conducts post-event evaluations to assess outcomes, gather feedback, and generates reports as

12. Plays a role in Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) and Emergency Support Services (ESS) as

required by the nature of the incident.

13. Prepares reports for City Council and management as requested.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS:

1. A diploma in a relevant subject area such as sport management, tourism, public relations, business

administration or other related discipline

2. Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a local government role in the areas of event coordination,

customer service, tourism, or marketing.

3. Valid driver's license.

4. Tourism Industry knowledge.

5. Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

6. The ability to perform all the duties outlined in a safe manner following established Facility

Procedures, Occupational, Health & Safety Rules, and Violence in the Workplace policies and W.C.B.

Regulations, i.e. WHMIS, T.D.G.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

1. Knowledge of marketing, public relations, and sponsorship programs.

2. Promotion skills

3. Involvement, experience with an event, knowledge and awareness of sport and event tourism, key

players, business models, etc.
