We are seeking a dynamic individual to support a highly motivated team across our ambulatory care, long-term care, hospice, and community support programs. The right person will provide corporate and program-specific strategic communications support and advice, lead key projects, and help our internal and external audiences stay informed about and engaged with Kensington Health.

Position overview :

The Communications Specialist will report to the Manager, Communications and Public Affairs, and work closely with with staff across Kensington Health and the Kensington Health Foundation. As part of a small but mighty team, the specialist will be responsible for leading the execution of key communications deliverables and projects.

The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker committed to improving health care in the community. They will have exceptional written communication skills, which they will use to translate complex information into clear and meaningful calls to action for a variety of internal and external audiences. As we pursue ambitious goals outlined in our recently launched strategic plan, they will also build strong relationships with stakeholders across the Kensington community, plan and manage projects, and play a key role in making our vision of a better life for everyone a reality.

In this role, the successful candidate will:

  • Lead the research, planning, stakeholder engagement and implementation of organization-wide strategic communication plans and related deliverables. Working with leaders from across the organization, act as project manager for communications components of exciting new initiatives under our strategic plan.
  • Create and curate clear, compelling written content for our annual reports, e-newsletters, website, social media platforms, fundraising asks, speaking remarks, and briefing notes, among other deliverables.
  • Work closely with colleagues across Kensington's programs to identify strategic communication opportunities to support programmatic priorities and plans.
  • Proactively identify story opportunities, gather information or conduct interviews, and share with our audiences of staff, volunteers, patients, residents, clients, caregivers and supporters.
  • Lead the development and distribution of e-newsletters. Work with team members from across our programs to gather information, revise and organize content, incorporate feedback, and distribute.
  • Collaborate with an external vendor on the redevelopment of the organization's website. Arrange consultations with internal and external stakeholders, support content development, consolidate feedback, and liaise with vendor throughout the process.
  • Support correct usage and increased awareness of the Kensington Health brand. Act as an internal subject matter expert in helping colleagues apply the Kensington Health brand correctly. Lead the updating of branded materials, as required.
  • Support our partners at the Kensington Health Foundation with fundraising activities, including special events.
  • Support the planning of corporate Kensington Health events, conferences and planning days.
  • Assist with the development of social media content.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or related field.
  • A minimum of four years' experience in Communications, Public Affairs, Public Relations, or Marketing.
  • A minimum of two years' experience working in a health care, social services or a not-for-profit environment, and an understanding of Ontario's health care system.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing complex communications projects from planning through to execution.
  • Comfort with social media platforms (X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook), websites, e-mail marketing platforms (MailChimp) and other technologies required in a fast-paced, hybrid working environment.
  • Demonstrated experience using Canva, comfort using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and/or InDesign a strong asset.
  • Experience leading or significantly contributing to a website redevelopment project is considered an asset.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; a self-motivated, proactive team player invested in building relationships with and learning from their colleagues.
  • Outstanding writing, editing and storytelling ability, including adapting complex information for diverse audiences.
  • Impeccable planning and project management skills.
  • An excellent oral communicator who feels at ease presenting to internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Experience designing, or working with graphic designers, to develop brand-compliant and visually pleasing collateral.
  • Outstanding time management and organizational skills; ability to multi-task and a keen eye for detail.

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

Location: The successful candidate will work in a hybrid model and is expected to be on-site as required (currently 2 days a week)
