The Marketing Department helps drive and support initiatives, campaigns, and projects designed to advance the strategic priorities and enrolment goals of Cape Breton University. As a key group of brand champions, the Department prioritizes strategies and initiatives aimed at strengthening brand awareness and management through clear, consistent marketing and communications.

SUMMARY:

The Marketing Manager provides strategic advice, leads the development and oversees the implementation of integrated marketing communications strategies that help advance the brand and mission of Cape Breton University and achieve enrolment goals. The Marketing Manager delivers innovative, results-driven marketing initiatives while demonstrating effective resource planning and management.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides strategic advice to senior leadership related to marketing, specifically in the areas of brand management, digital marketing, and integrated marketing and communications.
  • Develops and manages CBU's brand building strategies and initiatives.
  • Develops and oversees the execution of a multi-channel marketing strategy with tactics including but not limited to search engine marketing, digital display, remarketing/retargeting, and paid social to support domestic and international recruitment efforts.
  • Develops strategic marketing campaigns aligned with strategic enrolment management goals, designed to support recruitment efforts across Canada and internationally.
  • Works with Communications Manager to develop processes, coordinate services to campus community, and design brand management policies.
  • Contributes to the creative development of projects and signs-off on creative/production material to ensure on-strategy and on-brand executions.
  • Collaborates with internal and external partners to champion marketing opportunities and ensure alignment to overarching strategy and successful execution.
  • Advises a broad network of internal clients (Deans/School and Departments) to plan and execute marketing projects and support materials that ensure organizational objectives for recruitment and retention are supported and advanced.
  • Monitors and manages project budgets and invoices and initiates account transfers on a timely basis.
  • Works to continuously improve initiatives by capturing and analyzing the appropriate metrics, insights and best practices, and then acting on the information.
  • Utilizes marketing analytics to incorporate data-driven insights to optimize enrollment marketing and communications strategies using Google Analytics, Google AdWords, CRM data and social media Insights.
  • Provides strategic recommendations to improve campaign performance, increase brand awareness, and support enrollment goals.
  • Conducts research and creates in-depth, data-driven, and informed strategy proposals.
  • Manages team of professional, creative and technical staff
  • Maintains strong working relationships with team members and internal clients.
  • Identifies and acts on opportunities to optimize departmental team and operational performance.
  • Regularly liaise with, brief, and manage external agency partners and suppliers as to ensure strategic project alignment, support and execution.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in marketing or related field (university degree preferred) plus 5-7 years progressive marketing experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Experience in international sales and marketing considered an asset.
  • Experience in higher education considered an asset.
  • Proven brand builder with demonstrated experience developing and executing integrated marketing strategies and plans (traditional, digital, experiential).
  • Inbound Marketing Certification.
  • Google Analytics Evaluation Certification.
  • Experience with mobile, online interactive and social media tools, techniques and best practices including but not limited to PPC advertising (Google AdWords, Google Display Network, Re-targeting), social media advertising, SEO, user analytics, blogs and email campaigns.
  • Strong grasp of and experience with leveraging marketing opportunities in the digital domain, including campaigns, process automation, customer relationship management tools, etc.
  • Proficiency in marketing automation and blogging software in order to generate traffic, convert visitors into leads, and then nurture them (using dynamic workflows) into converted customers.
  • Understanding and proficiency in Inbound Marketing to grow new leads, including marketing-qualified leads, by converting site traffic through calls-to-action, landing pages, and lead generation content (including offers).
  • Familiarity with analytics and other metrics used for evaluating reach and impact of marketing / communications efforts. Ability to provide detailed reporting on digital metrics and proven examples of use of analytics to guide digital marketing strategy and communications initiatives.
  • Superior project and client management skills.
  • Must be collaborative and a strong team leader with superb interpersonal, oral and written communications skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with excellent prioritization, planning, organizational, and time management skills as well as the ability to adapt to shifting priorities and work under pressure in a high-volume environment, execute multiple projects while meeting strict deadlines.
  • Proficiency with project management, scheduling/forecasting, workflow management and CRM tools.
  • Experience with project budget development and management.
  • Experience in the development of inbound marketing campaigns and workflows a definite asset.
  • Ability to think critically and analyze to enable assessment of opportunities.
  • Strong customer service-orientation, interpersonal skills and a proven ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Proficiency in all MS Office programs.
  • Agency experience and/or copywriting skills are beneficial.
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends.
