POSITION OVERVIEW

The Communications Specialist drives communication strategies that position CBABC as an influential voice in the profession. The position is responsible for strategically developing messaging that raises awareness of our initiatives among members and external stakeholders.

Reporting to the Manager, Marketing and Communications, the incumbent works closely with the Graphic & Digital Designer, the Digital Marketing Coordinator and other branch team members to develop and deliver content that increases membership and member engagement. Necessary skills include strong writing capabilities, project management, proactive problem solving and collaboration.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop communications plans and schedules for the rollout of various initiatives.
  • Lead the content planning and delivery of CBABC's weekly member newsletter in collaboration with team members.
  • Write and edit compelling content for web, emails, newsletters and social media posts.
  • Work with the Advocacy team to raise awareness for CBABC consultations, submissions and advocacy achievements.
  • Develop speeches for the CEO, President and other Board members as necessary.
  • Provide copywriting for corporate publications like Agenda for Justice, Annual Report, etc.
  • Provide thorough review and edits for each issue of BarTalk magazine.
  • Develop media releases and statements, briefing notes and key messages.
  • Coordinate with media to respond to inquiries and pitch news stories.
  • Build and send emails through the email marketing software; schedule social posts through scheduling system; update the website content through content management system - in all cases, applying best practices and brand standards.
  • Review results from social media, web and email analytics and implement strategies to optimize effectiveness.
  • Provide back up support to other members of the Communications and Marketing team during vacations and peak periods.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3 - 6 years of work experience in a communications or media relations
  • Post-secondary education and training in a related communications field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on business writing
  • Excellent skills in organization, proactive problem solving and collaboration
  • Ability to think critically about content, ensuring it meets brand guidelines and conveys messaging goals
  • Strong ability to anticipate project needs, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Experience liaising with media and developing material to support public relations beneficial
  • Experience with social media platforms and social media management tools beneficial
  • Familiarity with email marketing software, such Higher Logic and or web platforms such as Kentico beneficial

Salary range - $57,000 - $67,000
