Job Summary

The Graphic Designer will support the communications team and other CMHA Ontario departments as an in-house creative resource. This position is responsible for the creative aspects of designing and developing digital communications material for CMHA Ontario, the CMHA branch network and associated brands in a fast-paced, fun, and demanding environment.

Core Responsibilities

  • Use a solid foundation in graphic design essentials to conceptualize and execute various CMHA Ontario communication materials, both digital and print.
  • Translate mental health information into high quality visual, audio and video design concepts, in particular for digital and social platforms.
  • Create high-quality graphic content to accompany CMHA Ontario and branch social posts, pages, and web applications that drive traffic and boost conversions.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies to increase audience awareness and engagement on multiple social media platforms.
  • Support design for CMHA branches and CMHA Ontario brands such as the Centre for Innovation in Campus Mental Health, Mental Health Works, Talk Today, Agriculture Wellness Ontario, etc. by developing print, promotional, and digital materials that clearly communicates ideas and initiatives to our various audiences.
  • Take direction from written or spoken ideas and convert them into images, layouts, and other designs in a timely fashion. Provide high quality customer service to both internal and external collaborators and stakeholders.
  • Develop design concepts for interactive and dynamic screen layouts, user interfaces, icons, and other elements associated with web site development, digital visualization, and maintenance.
  • Positively influence the organization's corporate image through the use of corporate style guidelines, procedures, and supporting materials; ensuring all documents produced by the division are to the highest design standards, create a strong social media presence and effectively communicate with the CMHA Ontario community.
  • Continually review and recommend improvements to workflow processes to ensure ongoing efficiency of design services between the communications department, CMHA Ontario programs and branches.

Skills & Experience

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Graphic Design, Multimedia, Web Design or a related field.
  • Work experience as a graphic designer or digital content creator producing a wide assortment of communications collateral including print ads, graphics, newsletters, fact sheets, email blasts, social media posts, websites.
  • Possess an excellent understanding of current visual design and social media trends; stays well-informed with emerging trends.
  • Have demonstrated artistic and conceptual abilities in creating designs for engaging and dynamic user experiences.
  • Detail oriented, with the ability to work on more than one assignment at a time and provide quick turnaround.
  • Must be a hands-on individual proficient in desktop publishing and graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Experience and technical expertise in web development, including application of web accessibility, testing, usability, and search engine optimization, is an asset.
  • Experience with video production and editing is an asset.

Salary

Hiring Rate: This position pays between $62,048.49 and $63,891.40 per annum, based on a 35-hour work week.

The salary grid for this role ranges between $62,048.49 at Step 1 and $69,758.53 at Step 5. The initial salary offered for this position is anticipated to fall between Step 1 and Step 2 of the salary grid as posted above as the hiring rate.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time, regular (permanent) position working standard office hours (currently 35 hours/week). This position is based in Toronto, Ontario and may require regular travel. We are currently operating within a hybrid model, with colleagues working from the office at least 3 days/week and from home up to 2 days/week.

This position is also a desk job with extended periods of sitting, reading, telephone interaction, and working at the computer. This position involves some moderate lifting, shipping, and handling. Attendance at various meetings throughout the workday/workweek will be required; meetings may occur on short notice, depending on the circumstances.

As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to maintain and submit proof of full COVID-19 vaccination.
