Digital Communications Coordinator

Location: 11738 Kingsway Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta

Position Status: Full-time (40 hours/work) Permanent Position

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting for a second Digital Communications Coordinator to join the Communications and Citizen Engagement Department. Reporting to the Communications Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting Provincial Office digital communications to channel the voice of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government to Métis Citizens. The successful candidate will be a passionate individual who thrives in a busy environment and is able to take initiative and follow through, provide constructive and creative input, and learn from others.

Key Responsibilities

  • Craft and execute digital communication plans aligning with organizational goals and digital trends.
  • Consider the organization and all of its moving parts to draft strategies, executive tactics, develop metrics, and reach goals.
  • Collaborate with departments and stakeholders to achieve digital communications objectives on various projects.
  • Consistently work to enhance the Otipemisiwak Métis Government's digital media presence.
  • Maintain and update the Otipemisiwak Métis Government's website and social media platforms.
  • Uphold two-way communication with social media followers on all platforms, ensuring comments and questions are responded to appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Write and edit both copy and promotional materials for digital platforms.
  • Create presentations, reports, newsletters, and other communication collateral where needed.
  • Monitor media and note issues, trends, and mentions potentially affecting the Otipemisiwak Métis Government.
  • Execute communication needs at events, including photography and social media, as required.
  • Proactively develop networks with internal and external clients to build relationships.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

Skills & Competencies

  • Superior written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong technical skills, knowledge of digital media, and experience with Content Management Systems (e.g. WordPress).
  • Competency to work with and convey messages to different audiences.
  • Experience with photography, DSLR cameras, photo editing, and graphic design (e.g. Adobe, Canva) is an asset.
  • Experience with SEO, keyword research, and analytic tools (e.g. Google Analytics).
  • Knowledge of online marketing channels, including post automation software (e.g. Hootsuite, Meltwater) is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of marketing and communications principles and
  • Ability to assess options and implications, engage different perspectives, create strategic solutions for communications challenges, and seek opportunities.
  • Excellent strategic thinking skills with the ability to execute tasks and develop analytical metrics.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize requests, multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and be adaptable and flexible to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work with a very collaborative team, improve based on feedback, and provide solutions and alternatives.
  • Strong sense of ethics and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Political and cultural sensitivity.
  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the MNA and Métis culture is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in communications-related field.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar position.
  • Work experience in professional writing, journalism, communications, public relations, or similar, is considered an asset.

Other Requirements

  • Position is based in Edmonton; in-office presence is required.
  • Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends is required, with notice.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Travel within Alberta is required. Additional, less frequent, out-of-province travel may also occur, with notice.
