The Role
The Manager, Communications and Marketing is a public relations and communications professional who handles public communications on behalf of the Polytechnic and is responsible for ensuring the presentation and maintenance of a positive institutional public image. This position creates and implements communications strategies that influence perceptions and opinions of employees, stakeholders, government, and the public. These goals will be accomplished through the leadership and guidance of the Communications and Marketing Team. The Manager, Communications and Marketing will report to the Director, Communications and Marketing.
Key responsibilities will be:
- Consult internally with Schools and Departments to determine key messages and appropriate communication vehicles for internal and external audiences.
- Ensure consistent articulation of the Polytechnic's approved image and position on issues to all internal and external constituencies.
- Work directly with department director to identify priorities to enhance NWP's brand in the market by aligning department work with strategic direction of Polytechnic.
- Organize and effectively manage news conferences; invite media; draft news conference agenda, emcee script and related documents. Ensure appropriate distribution of news releases.
- Manage graphic design and content of corporate website and social media channels.
- Development of a variety of publications including the Edge magazine and Community Connector newsletter that targets alumni, stakeholders, and donors.
- Provide direction and leadership to the team that supports the goal of the institution.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to staff of the Communications and Marketing team.
- Adhere to the Collective Agreements in decisions and actions.

Requirements
The successful candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations and/or English with a minimum of four years directly related job experience including familiarity with graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite and expertise with various computer and internet tools and platforms are essential.
Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- An entrepreneurial spirit, specifically one who is willing to take a risk to create opportunities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build strong relationships across the organization.
- A high level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
- Experience in leading staff and volunteers, communications, marketing, and project management.
