Mission Aviation Fellowship is a unique Christian ministry that operates over 120 aircraft in 29 countries worldwide. MAF transports Christian workers, patients, relief workers, community supplies and medical aid in the world's most remote regions and places of deepest human need. OVERVIEW
The Head of Communications role is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications in Guelph, Ontario, Home Office. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to meet and exceed the role responsibilities as described in detail below. As a Christian ministry, MAF Canada is seeking individuals who embody the values and beliefs of the organization as articulated in our mission, vision and faith statements.
Purpose: To manage and measure communications strategies to build MAF's identity and reputation across Canada in support of the organization's fundraising and recruitment goals. And to write emotive and passionately about the work of MAF in a way that solicits, cultivates, and stewards donor giving and relationships that help MAF Canada obtain the resources it needs to carry out its mission and vision.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
- Manage social media including strategy and execution
- Create copy for websites, social media platforms, emails, ad campaigns, and more
- Manage public and media relations to promote the brand to niche audiences
- Write press releases, marketing materials and donor communications
- Perform editing tasks and revisions to help adhere to brand style guide and brand voice
- Write clear, attractive copy with a distinct voice
- Interpret copywriting briefs to understand project requirements
- Collaborate with our designer and other internal stakeholders on large and small-scale marketing projects (e.g. email campaigns, brochures, Direct Marketing campaigns)
- Conduct high-quality research and interviews
- Facilitate and maintain relationships with vendors/partners
- Help build and support the CEO's external communications and thought leadership strategy, including media relations, social media engagement, public speaking, blogs, and op-eds that highlight the organization's impact and vision
- Support missionary recruitment by generating leads through communication strategies with key partners such as Christian radio, publications, events, schools, and churches
- Measure and report on the results of communication initiatives, providing insights and recommendations for improvement
- Measure digital traffic and prepare detailed digital and social media analytics reports
- Respond to communication-related and social media issues in a timely manner
- Responsible for loading donor journeys into Marketing Cloud, updating changes along with creating and loading content
- Edit and proofread copy as needed
- Source images and other content as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
- Minimum 7+ years direct experience with 3+ years of management experience
- Proven experience as a copywriter or related role
- Knowledge of online content strategy and creation
- Proven experience working with media communications
- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills
- Experience with SEO
- Strong research skills

- BSc/BA in marketing, English, journalism or related field

The successful candidate will be able to express the goals and mission and vision of MAF Canada and the greater global MAF experience to Canadians. They will understand our voice and know how to selectively apply cadence and accent to regional areas, all while maintaining consistency of brand identity for the greater audience. The candidate will have a strong ability to shift gears so to speak - to be able to write persuasive, call-to-action prose, while also being able to write Press Releases that deal more with fact. He/she will be a highly effective influencer and communicator at all staff and external donor levels. Must be able to connect and work with diverse individuals and groups to strengthen teamwork and implement projects to deliver results. He/she will also be knowledgeable and up to date with philanthropic trends in the charitable sector with specific emphasis on brand awareness, donor engagement and fundraising.
