Our Library System

The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library (TNRL), the biggest Regional District department, delivers services through 13 locations - urban and rural, a Mobile Library, and Library Home Service. Patron-centric, the TNRL goes the distance in providing service for a lifetime of personal growth, learning and enjoyment through programming, resources and space designed for people of all ages and abilities.

The Role

TNRL is seeking a temporary full-time Marketing & Communications Coordinator to join its Leadership Team. This is a parental leave replacement beginning approximately January 2025 and anticipated to end February 2026. This position may be extended or shortened with two weeks' notice. Location: Downtown Kamloops Library.

A skilled and compelling communicator, the Coordinator will promote library services and programs through well-crafted public messaging, positive media and web presence, and via a consistent and high profile brand that is recognized throughout the region. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will create and review print, online graphics and advertising. Additionally, they may act as a spokesperson/media liaison and coordinate media appearances for others.

Reporting to the Manager of Discovery & Support Services, the Marketing & Communications Coordinator will chair the Library's marketing and communications committee, lead special projects such as library card campaigns while supporting all other library initiatives. They will manage the creation and execution of marketing campaigns, including program guides, posters, newsletters, and social media content, ensuring consistency across all channels. As part of the library team, you will perform customer service functions, creating a welcoming environment and a superb library experience for all.

Library coordinators support operational and strategic priorities through system-wide portfolio assignments and are part of the leadership team. They proactively engage, build rapport, and maintain relationships with TNRD-area community groups and organizations to inform the design, development, and evaluation of library services, collections and programs. Coordinators support public service by fostering staff development through mentorship and training, and participate in public services by providing reference, readers' advisory, digital instruction, and customer service.

This is a temporary full-time position (35 hours/week). The schedule is Monday-Friday 8:30am-4pm, and may include evenings and/or weekends, and travel within the region. The schedule for this role is subject to change.

Requirements

Education/Experience

  • Minimum four (4) year undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution focused on marketing and communications and a minimum of two years experience, OR a Master's degree in Library and Information Studies from an ALA-accredited program, with prior experience in marketing and communications.
  • A demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
  • Experience working in a library environment is considered an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrated success in creating and implementing high impact marketing.
  • Superior written, public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Excellent organizational, project and time management skills, and the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • A passion for helping others, a belief in the importance of literacy and the key role libraries play.
  • Proficiency in email marketing platforms, content creation, graphic design/layout and image editing skills (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva), working within organizational visual brand and style guide parameters.
  • Proficiency in using social media in a professional capacity (X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube), including scheduling tools and in audio and video recording and editing.
  • Strong customer service aptitude, skills, and experience together with a genuine interest in working with patrons of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Valid Driver's licence.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.

This position falls under the provisions of the Collective Agreement with the BC General Employees' Union, Local 705. This is a Pay Grid 17 position at $36.04- $39.90/hr (2025 wages) plus a percentage in lieu of benefits.
