High Tide Inc., a leading cannabis retailer and accessory company, is seeking a passionate Advisor, for our Communications and Public Affairs department. An ideal candidate would reside in Edmonton, Calgary (Corporate office), Toronto or Ottawa. You will provide exceptional planning and day-to-day corporate communications and public affairs documentation, e.g. press releases, media statements and projects for our Chief Communications and Public Affairs Officer and additional senior team members including our CEO.
Responsibilities:
- Providing support to the Chief Communications and Public Affairs Officer and other senior team members.
- Monitor key developments related to cannabis policy at all relevant levels of government within Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union.
- Monitoring and disseminating key media stories related to cannabis policy, High Tide, and its subsidiaries, as well as competitors.
- Preparing targeted briefings for senior executives based on monitoring and research.
- Relationship management with different political liaisons in various provinces to help industry lobbying efforts for the progress of the industry.
- Manage various political relationships and work closely with public relations and CEO to leverage various relationships via networking.
- Provide research activities in support of broader strategies and plans.
- Supporting the development of corporate press releases and media statements.
- Developing strategies and plans regarding issues of interest including recommendations for social media and other communication efforts, when appropriate.
- Managing key corporate social media assets as directed.
- Complying with the lobby registration process as per jurisdiction.
- Arranging meetings with the government and participating when required.
- Building relationships in government at the political and public service levels as directed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum five years experience in a communications or public affairs role (work or volunteer experience with a political party is an asset).
- Bachelor's degree in Business, or Communications is preferred.
- Experience in the cannabis industry a plus.
- An understanding of the nature of the relationship between government, the media and opinion leaders, and stakeholders, and the nature of the relationship between the elected and non-elected levels of government.
- Knowledge of legislative and regulatory procedures.
- The ability to meet deadlines and prioritize time sensitive material within tight deadlines.
- Passion, tenacity, and enthusiasm.
- Proficiency with major social media platforms.
- Superior writing skills.
- Strong communication skills and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with key stakeholders internally and externally.
- A keen eye for detail and a commitment to delivering exceptional comms material.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
