Job Summary
Dalhousie University, under the leadership of the Vice-President Research & Innovation, administers over $250M annually in research funding. Reporting to the Director, Dal Innovates, the Associate Director, will oversee all of Dal Innovates' marketing and communications activities, ensuring it aligns with the overarching mission and vision of the unit. They will work closely with Program Managers to develop promotional strategies for their respective programs and recommend benchmarks for metrics. Additionally, they will be responsible for special projects that fall within Dal Innovates purvey, providing leadership, strategy advice and day-to-day oversight in support of the unit's delivery outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develops short, medium and long-term strategic plans and related operational measures and benchmarks as it relates to Dal Innovates marketing and communications. Develops and oversees the long-term budget models of the unit's marketing and communications activities in support of the budget planning and forecasting process.
- Responsible for the strategic planning as it relates to marketing and communication for the national Lab2Market NSERC project, collide, ecosystem events, social media and Dal Innovates in general.
- Reviews, develops and implements comprehensive strategies aimed at improving the operational effectiveness of marketing/communications on a regular basis. Provide strategic oversight on special projects as assigned by Director including MindFrame Connect.
- Conducts regular quality assurance, quality control and risk register reviews and conducts appropriate follow up, responsible for confirming compliance on all review issues.
- Oversees the recruitment of programs participants (donors, academics, mentors & CEOs of ventures, c-level executives, corporate sponsors, etc.), requiring in-depth knowledge of the internal and external experts across multiple sectors.
- Plans strategically for and defines the organizational structure of the special projects including the kinds of equipment used, the methods and techniques of work, the work assignments, duties and responsibilities of project staff.

Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in a related field plus, five to seven years' of related and progressive leadership experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Demonstrated experience developing strategic plans and related operational metrics and benchmarks.
- Demonstrated experience building relationships with external partners.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing strategies aimed at improving the operational effectiveness of marketing/communications.
- Demonstrated experience managing the recruitment of program participants (donors, academics, mentors & CEOs of ventures, c-level executives, corporate sponsors, etc.).
- Must be an exceptional collaborator, communicator and operator who is adaptable, tactful, and organized with the ability to work under pressure in a deadline-driven, fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Assets
- Experience in a university environment.
- Masters degree preferred.
