Purpose of the Role:
The Non-Profit Development and Communications Specialist plays a critical role in advancing the mission and strategic objectives of the CEE Centre for Young Black Professionals. By combining expertise in organizational development, capacity building, communications, and fundraising, this position supports the growth and empowerment of Black-led and Black-serving organizations and communities. The role is structured to dedicate two days per week to Sector Leadership initiatives and three days per week to communications and fundraising efforts, ensuring a balanced approach to organizational development and external engagement. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Program and Service Delivery and Communications Director, the Specialist works closely with internal teams, grantees, donors, and external stakeholders to drive meaningful impact and build organizational capacity.
Sector Leadership Focus (2 Days per Week):
1. Trusteeship and Organizational Mentorship Program:
- Provide communication support to maintain effective partnerships with CEE's program partners, grantees, organizational mentees, and funders.
- Act as a point of contact for trustee/mentee applications and funding agreements, ensuring timely processing and accurate record-keeping.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to applicants, grantees, and mentees to improve funding opportunities and compliance.
- Provide administrative support to the designing and implementing of capacity-building training modules, workshops, and onboarding resources.
- Support the collection and management of program data, preparing reports for funders and CEE leadership.
- Monitor and maintain detailed records of program activities, ensuring goals are met.
2. Grant Management:
- Communicate recommendations for funding and understand grant application files.
- Draft and administer Letters of Understanding (LOUs) and Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), ensuring alignment with CEEs goals, with proper oversight from Manager.
- Work alongside the Organizational Development Lead to provide the administrative review and reconciliation of project budgets, disbursement schedules, and eligibility of invoices in collaboration with the finance team.
3. Project Management:
- Track deadlines to ensure timely submission of reports, reconciliations, and disbursements.
- Troubleshoot partnership challenges and consult with leadership to assess risks.
- Support special projects under the Sector Leadership portfolio as assigned.
Communications and Fundraising Focus (3 Days per Week):
1. Fundraising Support:
- Assist in the development and execution of fundraising campaigns and events.
- Conduct donor prospect research and identify funding opportunities.
- Support donor stewardship by managing acknowledgments, communications, and follow-ups.
2. Grant Writing and Reporting:
- Draft grant proposals and compile necessary documentation for funding applications.
- Assist in preparing grant reports, ensuring compliance with grant requirements.
3. Communications Strategy:
- Create communication materials, including newsletters, press releases, and social media content.
- Manage social media accounts to increase visibility and engagement with stakeholders.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to highlight CEE's mission, programs, and impact in external communications.
4. Administrative Support:
- Maintain donor databases, generating reports, and analyzing fundraising data to inform strategies.
- Provide general administrative assistance, including scheduling meetings, organizing files, and maintaining calendars.
- Assist in the planning and execution of public-facing events or initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, nonprofit management, finance, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in project management, nonprofit fundraising, or communications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with expertise in donor engagement and capacity building.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Asana, social media platforms, and donor/project management tools.
- Proven ability to work independently while collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of and commitment to addressing the unique challenges faced by Black communities.

Physical Demands of the Job:
- Frequent sitting at a desk and working on a computer for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting of light objects (up to 20 pounds) for events or workshops.
- Periodic standing or walking during meetings, training sessions, or events.
