The Opportunity
As an assistant manager reporting to the Senior Manager, Marketing and Communications, you will play a vital role in amplifying DIVERSEcity's impact and mission through events, relationship-building and content creation. You will play an important role in developing and implementing communications and stakeholder engagement strategies to engage community and corporate partners, manage events for DIVERSEcity and support various program portfolios. You will also work together with the Marketing and Communications team to create compelling messaging and communications materials highlighting the organization's programs, events and initiatives.
Through your excellent communication and writing skills, event planning and creative ideas, you will be a collaborative team player, contributing to the overall success of DIVERSEcity's efforts to create a more inclusive and equitable community.
Key Responsibilities
- Help develop innovative and measurable communications and stakeholder engagement strategies to support events and initiatives.
- Coordinate aspects of event planning and execution, hosting and coordination, including logistics, managing budgets, timelines, vendor management, marketing and promotion, and post-event follow-up and evaluation.
- Support the organization's external communications and content, ensuring messaging is consistent with the organization's mission, values and strategic priorities.
- Help write, design and amplify marketing, communications and thought leadership materials, including social media content, annual reports, marketing materials, publications, articles, videos, presentations, pitch packages and website content.
- Handle media relations to support coverage of events and programs.
- Liaise with program staff to develop and implement communications plans for their portfolios, ensuring consistent messaging and branding across the organization.
- Other duties to support marketing, communication and event planning at DIVERSEcity.
Qualified candidates will possess:
- At least three to five years of experience in communications, event planning, stakeholder engagement or public relations.
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field.
- Fluent, superior writing, editing and proofreading skills, with the proven ability create compelling messaging and materials.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Experience planning and executing successful events including seeking sponsorships and corporate partners.
- Proven ability to manage projects and work collaboratively with others to achieve goals.
- Experience managing websites, social media and other digital communications tools.
- Experience in media relations.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Interpersonal skills to facilitate work with a wide range of individuals and groups from culturally diverse communities.
- Ability to work independently to prioritize, plan and produce high-quality work products in a fast-paced environment.
- Design and video experience preferred.
- BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle.
- Ability to work in office and with flexibility to attend various events on evenings and weekends as operational needs require.
