Position Summary

The Strategic Communications Manager, City Manager's Office (CMO), plays a pivotal role offering strategic advice, support, and holds expert proficiency regarding professional and political strategic communications. Reporting to the City Manager and working directly with the Deputy City Manager, Communications, Service Regina and Tourism, this position plays a vital role in developing robust strategies and leading the communication initiatives essential to the success of the City Manager's Office and organization. Duties & Responsibilities

Develop and implement communications strategies that help the City Manager's Office achieve its operational and organizational goals.

Ensure alignment of CMO communication strategies with the overall goals and objectives of the organization and the Strategic Communications Branch

Provide communications expertise, advice, and tactics to the City Manager, to ensure consistent, clear messaging, internally and externally, proactively, and reactively.

Serve as Public Information Officer for the Emergency Operations Centre

Maintain frequent, specialized, and effective communications between the City Manager's Office and City Council regarding appropriate Administration business.

Facilitate a communications strategy to ensure the CMO regularly and effectively engages employees and external stakeholders.

Leads communications initiatives in response to high-profile, politically sensitive, or corporation-wide issues, as directed by the City Manager and Deputy City Manager, Communications, Service Regina, and Tourism.

Writes speaking notes, news releases, internal all-staff emails.

Participates in CMO reviews of all Administration reports to City Council for clarity, accuracy, and alignment with Strategic Priorities

Represents CMO in Administration meetings as directed by City Manager Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Demonstrated experience working within a high profile, politically charged communications environment.

Proven ability to develop and implement internal communication strategies, fostering effective communication within an organization.

A high level of understanding of government/municipality operations

Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining relationships with media outlets, handling press inquiries, and coordinating interviews.

Strong writing skills, including experience in speech writing and the ability to craft messages for various audiences.

Experience in preparing presentations for public events.

Proven experience in developing and implementing crisis communication plans, as well as effectively managing communication during emergencies. Education & Experience

A minimum bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field.

8-10 years of progressive and strategic experience in roles related to public relations and communication strategies.

Government communications experience is preferred. The Good Stuff

Annual Salary: $112,099.00 - $149,464.00 (2024 Rates)
