JOB DESCRIPTION : Manager, Events

Job Location: Vancouver, BC

Employment Status: Permanent

Start Date: Position open

Work Hours: 9 am - 5 pm, Monday to Friday, with late evenings or early mornings up to once or twice a week as needed

Hybrid position with three days a week in the office and two at home (subject to change depending on events schedule)

Salary: $73,000 to $80,000 with four weeks vacation

Life Sciences BC (?LSBC?) has an immediate opening for a Manager, Events, who has a passion for special event management to provide exceptional member and client experiences. In this role, you will be an integral member of the overall team at Life Sciences BC. Reporting to the Director, Partnerships & Events, your role is to plan, organize and implement all the association's over 25 events; to anticipate and manager project needs; and to meet deadlines while working independently.

To fill this position, we are looking for an energetic and positive individual that is efficient, great with details and is solutions-oriented, and who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. LSBC hosts a selection of in-person, virtual, remote, and hybrid events, ranging in size from 40 to 500 guests, with a range of topics and lengths. These events include international conferences, investor pitches, industry awards, talent acquisition fairs, educational programming, and multi-day industry events, among others.

Life Sciences BC is a non-profit, sector association which supports and represents the life science community of British Columbia through leadership, enabling investment and promotion of our world-class life sciences sector. We undertake numerous initiatives including; local, national and international partnerships helping to facilitate investment and global partnering opportunities while nurturing health outcomes and economic development in BC through the life sciences sector

Team:

Life Sciences BC is a small team who work together across a broad spectrum of projects that involve government, academic and research institutions as well as industry, with the goal of creating a better society through the advancement of the life sciences ecosystem. We also work with co-op programs to fill specialist roles, offering students the opportunity to learn about our industry and organization first-hand, while supporting daily tasks and projects.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Events Management

· Leads and manages all event related logistics, including online event platform management, speaker coordination and training, content/program alignment, and event marketing for a variety of events

· Develops, tracks, and analyzes event budgets

· Prepares post event reports with key metrics including but not limited to number and profile of attendees, sponsor and attendees' feedback, and financial reports.

· Determines goals of individual events and related partnerships, and evaluates all activities based on those goals

· Coordinates with all events related stakeholders

· Identifies potential new LSBC event opportunities with the goal of hosting vibrant events

· Promoting events through the LSBC website, Eventbrite, Constant Contact, and direct email

· Collaborate with Marketing & Communications to promote events through social media channels

· Manage virtual event technology platforms including but not limited to Zoom, Pheedloop and Accelevents

· Work with and manage other professional business software including but not limited to MS Office Suite, Constant Contact, WordPress, and SalesForce

· Negotiate contracts with various venues and other suppliers

Relationships Management:

· Actively ensures relationships with Life Sciences BC stakeholders, including members, sponsors and vendors are effectively maintained and developed

· Attends industry networking events to promote Life Sciences BC and to engage with new and prospective stakeholders

· Supervises a co-op student assisting with event management

· Work with senior leadership volunteers and c-suite members on key events

Qualifications & Experience:

Required qualifications and skills:

· Minimum 5-years of experience in innovative event and program management

· Virtual event experience setting up and running events on platforms, ideally including but not limited to Zoom meetings & webinars, Pheedloop & Accelevents

· Managing event budgets including revenues and expenses

· Post-secondary qualification in event planning, business administration science or marketing

· A strong team player with a ?let's get it done right? attitude - supporting team decisions and working cooperatively

· Pro-active, detail oriented with strong organisational skills, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment; a responsible self-starter, able to prioritize, multi-task, and adapt to changes

· Strong written and verbal English corporate communications skills; ability to work with WordPress and produce on-line content for event webpages

· Ability to effectively use job-specific software at an intermediate level (e.g., MS Outlook, MS Office Suite, WordPress, Zoom, Eventbrite)

· Proven ability to build and enhance working relationships and collaborations with stakeholders

· Proven ability to analyze problems, identify key information and issues, and effectively resolve problems

· Ability to troubleshoot technology challenges including access to platforms while remaining professional

· Experience working with Senior Executives in private and public sector

· Documentation to legally work in Canada (i.e. Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, work permit)

· Performs other related duties as assigned

· Flexibility required in terms of timing of work days based on the events calendar

Additional Assets:

· Sales and marketing experience

· Experience working with ministerial offices

· Demonstrated entrepreneurship

· Familiarity with the life sciences sector
