The Country Network Canada facilitates Canadian businesses' engagement in a global movement dedicated to sustainable and ethical business practices. It encompasses over 200 diverse companies, both large and small, fostering systemic change and enhancing sustainability across sectors. Through its activities, the Canadian Network not only showcases leadership but also offers its Participants a competitive edge by integrating sustainable practices into their core business strategies.

In doing so, the Canadian Country Network unifies and builds the capacity of the Canadian private sector to embrace sustainable business practices by convening and accelerating opportunities for multi-stakeholder collaboration.

Role Summary

This senior-level leadership role is responsible for driving the strategic growth, marketing, communications, events, and members' engagement/retention efforts for an organization committed to advancing sustainability and ethical business practices. As part of the senior management team, this position oversees a team of three and collaborates closely with high-level corporate stakeholders to increase organizational visibility and align members' needs with the organization's goals.

Key areas of focus include developing innovative marketing strategies, securing new members, enhancing members' experiences, and managing event and communication initiatives to promote sustainability and support organizational objectives. Approximately 10% travel is required for stakeholder engagement, event representation, and relationship building.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Brand Leadership

Marketing and Communications Strategy:

  • Provide strategic direction and conceptualize marketing strategies to grow the network and enhance brand visibility.
  • Oversee targeted communication campaigns to engage stakeholders effectively.
  • Ensure consistent and high-quality messaging across all channels, including newsletters, press releases, and digital platforms, to engage stakeholders effectively.
  • Analyze marketing and communications performance metrics to optimize return on investment (ROI)

Event Strategy:

  • Design public event strategy (live and virtual), including involvement at industry events, to expand network reach and elevate brand visibility.
  • Ensure member events meet participant needs, contribute to retention, and demonstrate thought leadership in sustainability.

Business Development:

  • Design and execute strategies to attract new members and grow the participant base.
  • Develop and secure cash and in-kind sponsorships to generate revenue and engage partners and members. Oversee quality execution.
  • Oversight of business dev, personally responsible for annual sales cycle of about 50 companies, with an expectation of a 12%+ increase in new members annually (about 25-30)

Ambassadorship:

  • Serves as a spokesperson, representing the organization's mission at high-profile events.
  • Speaking engagements (2-3 in person a year to start) plus quarterly virtual info sessions and regular onboarding sessions of new members.

2. Client Engagement and Support

  • Enhance members' journey experiences by working with Canadian and Global colleagues to tailor opportunities and foster strong relationships.
  • Manage high-level relationships, lead member engagement strategies, including sponsorship initiatives, and manage relationships with top-tier members (approximately 20-30 accounts), ensuring members' needs are met through tailored solutions.
  • Act as the main point of contact for membership service-related inquiries.

3. Team Leadership and Development

  • Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
  • Oversee team members responsible for marketing, communications, events, business development, and member engagement.
  • Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of strategies by monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs), analyzing outcomes, and making data-informed adjustments to optimize results and drive continuous improvement.
  • As a part of the Senior Leadership Team at Global Compact Network Canada, you will contribute to the organization's overall strategy, culture development, and strategic direction.

4. Operational Excellence

  • Implement tools and systems to optimize engagement, such as CRM platforms and analytics tools.
  • Streamline processes for onboarding, reporting, and administration to ensure a seamless member experience.
  • Collaborate with the Global Compact Office to align on strategy and resource allocation while driving internal process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.

5. Travel and Relationship Building

  • Travel approximately 10% to support member engagement, attend events, and cultivate strategic relationships.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with corporate leaders, sponsors, and key stakeholders to support and advance organizational objectives.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Expertise in sales, marketing, communication, and event strategy.
  • Proven experience in business development and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency in CRM and marketing tools (e.g., Salesforce, Pardot, etc) and data analytics.
  • Knowledge of corporate sustainability and responsibility practices.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of senior-level experience in marketing, business development, or member engagement roles.
  • Demonstrated success in managing members, strategic communication, and achieving sales targets.
  • Experience in corporate sustainability and responsibility is highly desirable.

For first-round candidates, the leadership team will conduct a 60-minute interview focused on competencies, skills, and experience.

For second-round candidates, the leadership team will conduct a 60-minute interview focused on competencies, skills, and experience.
