Purpose of the Role
The Communication Specialist – Public Relations Focus is responsible for leading and executing external PR and communications activities across client accounts. This includes media strategy, content development, proactive outreach, and reactive responses.
The person in this role will serve as a PR lead for the agency’s healthcare and pharmaceutical clients, ensuring alignment with their objectives and regulatory context.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute public relations strategies tailored to client goals and audiences
- Write, edit, and proofread PR materials: press releases, media alerts, op-eds, Q&As, and briefing docs
- Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets and journalists (particularly in healthcare, business, and industry trade media)
- Pitch stories and coordinate media opportunities for clients
- Monitor media coverage and provide insights or reporting to clients
- Work closely with account leads and creative teams to align messaging across touchpoints
- Support issues/crisis management communications when required
- Stay current on media trends and best practices within pharma and healthcare sectors
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in public relations, ideally with agency experience and a strong focus on healthcare/pharma clients
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Proven ability to craft media-ready stories and secure coverage
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Team player with initiative, adaptability, and a positive, collaborative approach
- Bilingualism (French/English) is a strong asset
