Researcher, Immigrant integration, Institute for Research on Immigration and Society (IRMS), Concordia University 

28 to 35 hours of work per week, Monday to Friday, during office hours  

Hourly rate: $29.55 to $51.15, plus benefits 

Start date: September 1, 2024, negotiable 

Fixed-term unionized position: 3 years, subject to satisfactory performance. Possible extension beyond this period, based on availability of funds

DESCRIPTION AND CONTEXT 

The researcher will work under the direction of Mireille Paquet (Department of Political Science and Institute for Research on Immigration and Society) and contribute to several projects as part of the Canada First Research Excellence Fund: Migrant Integration in the Mid-21st Century: Bridging Divides 

The research themes associated with this position focus on: the emerging challenges facing immigrant serving organizations; the evolution of technological tools immigrant integration services delivery as well as new settlement and immigrant integration needs.  

Researchers with experience in qualitative field research and those with experience in mixed-method research are particularly welcome to apply. 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Conduct literature reviews (research, synthesis and writing). 
  • Contribute to the development of research plans (design, pre-testing, validation, etc.). 
  • Prepare ethics applications and ensure protocols application at all stages of research. 
  • Contribute, with the team, to the supervision of research assistants linked to the project. 
  • Participate in collecting primary qualitative and quantitative data and in the preparation, cleaning and transformation of data. 
  • Under the research team's guidance, carry out qualitative or quantitative data analysis using various techniques. 
  • Write reports and prepare presentations on research findings. 
  • Contribute, with the research team, to research-related knowledge transfer and mobilization activities. 
  • Support the research team in the preparation of funding applications and other related documents.

JOB REQUIREMENTS 

  • PhD in the social sciences (those in the process of obtaining their degree may apply) or or Masters’ degree with demonstrated experience in a similar position. 
  • Training or research experience related to immigration and immigrant integration issues. 
  • Documented experience of using qualitative methods in empirical research contexts. 
  • Oral and written bilingualism (French and English), with strong writing skills. 
    As the position is based in Montreal, applicants must be legally authorized to work in Quebec.  

Will be considered an asset

  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and on several projects in parallel. 
  • Autonomy and maturity. 
  • Experience with autonomous training and of professional development focused on learning new research methods. 

Salary and benefits  

  • Salary will be determined according to job-related training and experience.  
  • Salary range will be determined based on the AERC/CARE collective agreement. 
  • The position includes a benefits package (health and dental plan, life insurance and sick leave, pension plan and long-term disability plan). 

For candidates with a PhD, the position comes with the possibility of an affiliation with the University, enabling them to apply for funding as a principal investigator.
