JOB DESCRIPTION
AECOM is seeking an energetic, passionate, and self-motivated Community Engagement and Communication Specialist to join our team of community engagement, communication, graphic design, facilitation, and web design specialists. This is a permanent, full-time position reporting to the Team Lead of Impact Assessment and Permitting, and can be based in either of our offices in Alberta.
As part of the Environment Business Line, within the Impact Assessment and Permitting Group on the Community Engagement and Communications Team, you will be responsible for advancing our ambitious plans to enhance our service offering. You will work closely with a team of engineering specialists, professionals, and technical staff. This position is accountable for driving, planning, and executing community engagement and communication plans, working collaboratively with specialist teams as part of environmental assessments (EA), impact assessments, and permitting processes. You will also contribute to the development of our strategic community engagement and communication practice.

Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams and project managers to deliver strategic community engagement and communication for construction, environmental assessments, and infrastructure development projects.
- Planning and coordinating project activities, including engagement tactics, notifications, and public/Indigenous community meetings.
- Developing communication materials such as key messages, FAQs, presentations, notices, storyboards, and discussion guides.
- Evaluating the effectiveness of engagement programs and services.
- Coordinating contracts, budgets, commitments, expenditures, invoices, and project performance.
- Supporting the growth of the community engagement portfolio through the development of project proposals and other business development activities.
- Assisting with digital media and website development activities, including writing content for social media and websites.
- Planning and executing both in-person and virtual meetings.
- Assisting with internal and external document control and project records.
- Supporting project compliance with safety, health, and environmental requirements, and coordinating AECOM's quality control program.
- Ensuring the exceptional execution of deliverables and tasks, including delegating work to and mentoring staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements:
- A degree or professional designation (such as communication or environmental planning) is preferred, though proven and practical experience is essential.
- 4+ years of experience in a similar role in the public or private sectors.
- 4+ years of professional writing experience, including plain language, web content, and internal/external communications.
- Strong analytical, planning, organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, as this role requires continuous interaction with colleagues, team leaders, clients, and the public.
- A valid driver's license and access to transportation.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and remotely, if required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 6+ years of broad and demonstrated experience in community engagement and communications.
- Experience with Indigenous relations, government relations, media relations, public relations, stakeholder analysis, and facilitation is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of project coordination/management concepts and processes.
- Membership in or accreditation from IAP2, CPRS, IABC, or IAF is an asset.
- Experience with Adobe Suite, WordPress, SurveyMonkey, Engagement HQ, Social Pinpoint, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and WebEx.
- Familiarity with the Canadian regulatory and policy context, particularly in leading engagement and communications, and/or Indigenous engagement and participation.
