JSI is seeking an experienced technical writer to help create andâ¯maintainâ¯technical documentation in the area of core platform Engineering. This role will collaborate with variety of users and audiences both internal to Product Development as well as outside facing: Operations, Technical support, and Customer System Administrators.
Responsibilitiesâ¯:
- Create, organize,â¯andâ¯maintainâ¯engineering documentation such as system manuals, how-to guides, release manuals, knowledge base articles, and troubleshootingâ¯guides.
- Create, validate,â¯and maintain comprehensive technical and operational documentation including but not limited to operational procedures, deployment guides, and upgrade documentation.
- Gather information from subject-matter experts, compile, develop, organize, and write technical specifications, design decision records and processâ¯documentation.
- Act as the engineering documentation coordinator/ work with development and supportâ¯leads.â¯
- Work closely withâ¯documentationâ¯team to conform/adhere to the necessary corporate documentation standards andâ¯norms.
- Develop,â¯implement,â¯andâ¯maintainâ¯necessary documentationâ¯templates.
- Evaluate current content and develop/implement innovative methods for improvement (style guides, content templates, best practices).
- Act as the user advocate and provide consistent voice across allâ¯documentation.
Requiredâ¯Qualificationsâ¯:
- 4-7â¯years of experience as an effective technical writer.
- Proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex subjectâ¯matter.
- Experience inâ¯writing documentation and procedure manuals for variousâ¯audiences.â¯
- Experience performing softwareâ¯deploysâ¯and troubleshooting skills will be a big plus
- Superb written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Experience working with engineers toâ¯disseminate,â¯writeâ¯andâ¯validateâ¯procedural content.
- Ability to handle multiple projectsâ¯simultaneously.
- Curiousâ¯and have a learningâ¯mindset.

Preferredâ¯Qualifications :  
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in technology, communications, or relevant technical field.â¯
- Firm understanding of SDLC (systems development lifecycle)â¯
- Experienceâ¯in software development or QA.â¯
- Professional certification (ex: Society for Technical Communication)â¯
- Experience with document encoding (XML, markdown,â¯json,â¯yaml)â¯
- Experience with content management tools (Share point, Confluence, mkdocs)â¯
- Experience with configuration management tools (JIRA, TFS)â¯
- Experience with source control tools (Git) is aâ¯plus.â¯
- Experience working in an agile developmentâ¯environment.â¯
- Project management experience is anâ¯asset.â¯

How We Work
You will be expected to work in a remote/hybrid environment reporting to our Kanata, Ontario location 2 or more times per week.
