Role type: Temporary, Full-time

What you will work on:

Are you a nimble storyteller and visual content creator who thrives in fast-paced political environments? Join the BC Green Party as the Communications & Media Coordinator -a role dedicated to amplifying the Leader's voice and presence across digital platforms and earned media. You'll travel extensively with the Leader, capturing compelling video content, coordinating media opportunities, and ensuring she's prepared and positioned for maximum impact.

This role is essential to building the Leader's public profile and ensuring her message reaches British Columbians wherever they are. You'll work as her primary communications support on the ground, collaborating closely with the broader communications team to translate daily activities into engaging digital content and strategic media moments.

As the Communications & Media Coordinator, you will focus on a few areas:

Video Content & Digital Storytelling

  • Travel with the Leader regularly throughout BC, capturing high-quality video content for social media, web platforms, and campaign communications.
  • Produce short-form video content optimized for social platforms-reels, stories, clips, and behind-the-scenes moments that humanize the Leader and showcase her work.
  • Film events, community visits, announcements, and candid moments that tell the story of the Leader's priorities and values.
  • Edit and package video content quickly for same-day or rapid turnaround publishing, working with the wider team to distribute.
  • Maintain and manage video equipment, ensuring reliability and readiness for travel and on-the-go production.

Media Coordination & Interview Support

  • Act as the Leader's primary liaison for media coordination, working closely with the party scheduler and leadership team to secure and schedule interviews, press availabilities, and media appearances.
  • Coordinate logistics for media interviews-location scouting, tech setup, briefing materials, and on-site support.
  • Prepare the Leader for media engagements by providing talking points, key messages, and briefing materials developed in collaboration with the Director and Communications & Marketing Manager.
  • Accompany the Leader to media interviews and press conferences, providing real-time support and capturing supplementary content for digital channels.
  • Monitor media coverage and flag opportunities or issues to the communications team.

Leader Preparation & Messaging Support

  • Meet regularly with the Leader to align on upcoming engagements, messaging priorities, and content opportunities.
  • Work with the Director of Development and Communications to develop and deliver concise, effective talking points and briefing materials for public appearances.
  • Provide real-time feedback and support to help the Leader stay on message and prepared for unplanned media moments.
  • Build a strong working relationship with the Leader and party staff based on trust, responsiveness, and clear communication.

Event & Campaign Support

  • Support technical setup for the Leader's participation in press conferences, livestreams, and virtual events.
  • Coordinate with local riding associations and candidates to ensure smooth execution of Leader visits and joint appearances.
  • Capture photo and video assets from events for use in fundraising, social media, and campaign materials.
  • Work cross-functionally with organizing and fundraising teams to align Leader content with broader campaign goals.

Content Strategy & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Director to ensure Leader content aligns with the party's strategic narrative and brand.
  • Contribute ideas for content series, storytelling formats, and creative approaches to showcase the Leader's work.
  • Track performance of Leader-focused content and share insights to refine strategy.
  • Support rapid-response content creation during breaking news or time-sensitive moments.

What You Will Bring to the Team

  • 3+ years of experience in video production, digital content creation, or political communications.
  • Strong videography and video editing skills, with proficiency in mobile and professional camera equipment.
  • Experience with social media platforms and short-form video content (Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with senior leaders and public figures.
  • Ability to work independently, think on your feet, and adapt to changing schedules and priorities.
  • Comfort with extensive travel throughout BC- from mid November to early December, including evenings and weekends.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
  • Deep alignment with the BC Green Party's mission and values.
  • Valid driver's license.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with political candidates, elected officials, party leaders, or high-profile public figures.
  • Background in political campaigns, advocacy communications, or journalism.
  • Familiarity with livestream setup, audio equipment, and event AV production.
  • Knowledge of the BC political landscape and media environment.
  • Experience with photography for social media and websites.
  • Understanding of accessibility best practices for video content (captions, alt text, etc.).
  • Interest in emerging content formats and platform trends.
