Job Description for
Business Development Coordinator
LOCATION: EMI Canada - Calgary, AB
REPORTS TO: Development & Communications Director
POSITION: Full Time based on 37.5 hrs./week
ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Business Development Coordinator plays a crucial role in advancing the mission of EMI Canada by identifying, cultivating, and managing strategic partnership and revenue-generating opportunities. Under the direction of the Development Director and in collaboration with the Executive Director, this role focuses on prospect research, relationship development, opportunity analysis, proposal preparation, and supporting the growth of corporate, organizational, and institutional partnerships. The Business Development Coordinator is part of the EMI Canada Development & Communications team and may support other aspects of the department's work from time to time.
You are a self-motivated and organized professional with a passion for advancing the mission of EMI Canada. You have strong communication skills, including exceptional writing and presentation abilities. You are comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, and you can capably manage projects, details, and deadlines while building meaningful external relationships.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Events, public speaking, networking, developing pipeline of clients, recruiting interns (45%)
- Working across all three divisions of EMI; International Projects, Domestic Projects and Emerging Leaders, this role will build strategies and implement them around recruitment, creating a pipeline of projects and networking to help organizations understand how EMI can help them with their projects, and doing public speaking at networking events to build the EMI brand.
- Supports and promotes the activities of EMI Canada to internal and external constituencies, including attending and supporting EMI Canada events as appropriate
Development & Communications (25%)
- Assists the Development Director with administrative aspects of departmental work
- Where required, supports other Marketing & Communications initiatives
- Support with fundraising events, planning and follow-up
Grants Administration (20%)
- Coordinates and executes all aspects of grant management, which may include: prospect research and cold calling; drafting and editing proposals; managing active grants; drafting and editing grant reports where necessary; and maintaining detailed records
- Acts as internal point person for grants initiatives and collaborates across the organization to develop proposals and reports
- Develops relationships with prospective and active granting partners
- Professionally represents EMI Canada's vision, mission, and values, along with organizational goals and impact
- Collaborates with Development Director to set and monitor goals
Possible domestic or international travel to experience projects or build relationships with clients (5%)
- This role may be asked to go on project trips from time to time.
Discipleship and Spiritual Leadership (5%)
- Participates regularly in EMI Canada staff team discipleship initiatives such as Days of Prayer, retreats, and daily devotion and prayer
- As an outward facing role, the ability to engage both individuals as well as groups and conduct oneself in a Christian manner will be important to representing the organization
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
? Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to effectively communicate organizational vision, mission, and activities with a broad range of stakeholder groups across varied mediums
? Demonstrated experience in crafting promotional and/or fund development messaging, along with sharp editing skills
? Proficiency in Outlook, MS Word, Excel, and internet applications, as well as ability to learn and proficiently use databases (CIVI CRM)
? Comfortable and competent at communicating via phone, including cold calling
? Experience with grant management software (GrantAdvance or other) is considered an asset
? Experience in charitable or nonprofit fundraising is considered an asset
? Experience engaging in or supporting short and/or long-term Christian missions and/or international development is considered an asset
? Experience in and an understanding of cross-cultural ministry context are considered an asset
? Experience in or at least a comfort level with communicating about technical design and delivery are considered an asset
? Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills, and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
? Proactive self-starter comfortable working independently as well as in a team environment
? Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to build positive and productive collegial relationships
? Ethical, tactful, and committed to confidentiality regarding sensitive information
? A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are required for job related
duties
Education and Experience
? An undergraduate degree in a relevant field is preferred
? At least 3 years' experience in a similar role, or having performed similar tasks, preferably in a charitable setting
Personal Characteristics
? An individual with a heart and passion to advance the vision of EMI Canada
? Agreement with and adherence to EMI Canada's Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct
? Willing to undergo a Criminal Record Check before being approved for duty
WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbent will work in the EMI Canada office. Business travel may range from infrequent to periodic from season to season of each year.
