The Manitoba Home Builders' Association is a non-profit trade association representing Manitoba's residential construction industry. The MHBA's mandate is to provide our members, the public and all levels of government with ongoing education and information about the residential construction industry in our province.

At present, we are looking for an enthusiastic, driven and dedicated individual to join our team as our Director, Business Development & Events.

Position Summary

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Director, Business Development & Events role leads revenue growth, sponsorship strategy, and the planning and execution of MHBA and UDI Manitoba events, ensuring strong financial performance and meaningful member engagement.

This is a full-time position.

Job Responsibilities

The main responsibilities for the Director, Business Development & Events role will include:

Business Development

  • Provide strategic insight and recommendations related to the annual operating budget to support fiscal responsibility, transparency, and long-term sustainability.
  • Identify, develop, and implement new revenue streams to support organizational growth and diversification.
  • Lead sponsorship strategy, including prospecting, securing, managing, and renewing sponsorships and partnership agreements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with sponsors and external partners to maximize long-term value.
  • Regularly evaluate sponsorship packages and partnership offerings, recommending enhancements to improve partner value and return on investment.
  • Review existing partnerships and agreements to identify opportunities for optimization or renegotiation.
  • Oversee event- and sponsorship-related budgets to ensure alignment with strategic priorities and performance targets.

Event Strategy and Management

  • Oversee MHBA's and UDI Manitoba's annual calendar of events.
  • Provide end-to-end operational oversight for event planning, execution, and post-event evaluation.
  • Develop and manage detailed workback schedules, timelines, and deliverables for all events.
  • Lead and facilitate event planning team meetings to ensure clear accountability, coordination, and execution.
  • Review, approve, and sign off on event-related vendor, sponsorship, and service contracts.
  • Provide oversight of all events and sponsorship-related activities.
  • Lead event-day operations and logistics to ensure high-quality delivery and a positive member and stakeholder experience.

Member Engagement

  • Lead member engagement initiatives that enhance satisfaction, perceived value, and retention.
  • Collaborate with MHBA staff to design and deliver member programs and services that respond to evolving member needs and industry trends.
  • Ensure strategic alignment between events, sponsorships, programs, and broader member engagement objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business or a related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in business development, sales, partnerships, or membership-based organizations.
  • Demonstrated success in revenue generation, sponsorship development, and relationship management.
  • Experience with event planning and event-based revenue generation are considered an asset.
  • Experience working within associations, not-for-profits, or member-driven organizations considered an asset.
  • Strong strategic thinking, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Highly relationship-oriented with strong networking and partnership-building abilities.
  • Results-driven with a strategic, growth-focused mindset.
  • Confident and effective communicator, both written and verbal.
  • Collaborative leader who thrives in a team-based environment.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and prioritization skills.
