Saqijuq is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of cultural healing through community actions rooted in Inuit values and traditions. The organization strongly supports healthy lifestyles, rehabilitation, community safety, and intergenerational connections. Currently established in seven (7) communities, Saqijuq plans to expand into all fourteen (14) communities of Nunavik in the upcoming years.
Through the On-the-land (OTL) program and the Mobile Intervention Team (MIT), Saqijuq offers community-based services to reduce the criminalisation of social issues related to hospitalisation, substance abuse, suicide and psychosocial crisis by providing meaningful alternatives that prioritize rehabilitation and well-being.
Description
As a Communication Specialist, you use your creativity, organizational skills, and attention to details to support the development of Saqijuq’s communication strategies and visibility. You create engaging and culturally adapted content, manage the organization’s digital platforms, and deploy initiatives to contribute to Saqijuq’s outreach across Nunavik.
Your positive energy and your collaborative approach contribute to building strong relationships with partners, media, and the community, while supporting meaningful and sustainable engagement.
Responsibilities
Content Creation
- Develop and adapt content for various communication tools (newsletters, brochures, promotional documents, reports, letters, etc.).
- Write and distribute press releases, publications, and other texts related to the organization’s activities and projects.
- Create attractive visuals ensuring compliance with Saqijuq’s brand identity and guidelines.
- Contribute to the creation, revision, and updating of guides, and other resources intended for the organization’s partners and the community.
- Produce various materials to support internal communications, such as internal newsletters and templates.
- Ensure content translation in the three (3) languages used in Nunavik: Inuktitut, English and French.
Web and Social Media Management
- Keep Saqijuq’s website up to date by ensuring regular updates.
- Plan and coordinate the publication calendar and produce written content, visuals, and videos.
- Publish on social media and ensure community engagement, including responding to comments and messages, as needed.
- Monitor the organization’s social platforms, as well as those of partners and regional organizations, to stay informed about activities and projects in Nunavik.
- Participate in Saqijuq’s visibility campaigns and support the digital presence of the team and board members.
- Gather and analyze performance data (engagement rates, reach, website traffic, etc.) and make recommendations to optimize digital strategies.
Outreach and External relations
- Plan, organize, and facilitate internal and external events, such as photoshoots, promotional video or reels productions.
- Attend the management team’s strategic meetings and share relevant information through social media.
- Work closely with the Communication Consultant on promotional, and public relations campaigns as well as various projects.
- Manage and follow up with external suppliers, such as printers, distributors, and media contacts.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related discipline.
Work experience
- Three (3) years experience in a similar position.
- Significant work experience in Nunavik or another Inuit culture context, a major asset.
Knowledge and skills
- Ability to create content in multiple formats (digital, print, internal, external) and adapt messages to cultural nuances for diverse audiences.
- Proactive, organized, and able to manage time and priorities successfully to meet deadlines when dealing with multiple projects.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
- Knowledge of Nunavik organizations and governance structures and a good understanding, or curiosity about, the Inuit culture.
- Experience with Wordpress, Canva and Lightroom is a major asset.
Languages
- Fluency in English is essential because it’s the common language in workplaces across Nunavik.
- Strong communication and writing skills in English and French.
- Knowledge of Inuktitut is an asset.

- Monday to Friday

- Summer schedule: Friday afternoon off during the summer
Salary and benefits
- Salary scale: $ 65 874 and $ 95 999
- Maximum salary at the time of hiring is $ 85 044, based on work experience and education
- Possibility to bank overtime hours, in accordance with the applicable policy
- Four (4) weeks of vacation
- Two (2) weeks of vacation during the holiday period
