Internal communications at ISL starts with you. ISL has grown into an over 600-person full-service consulting engineering firm with 16 offices across Western Canada. For years, keeping people informed happened alongside everything else with marketing, leadership, and operations all contributing what they could. It worked for a smaller company. We're not that company anymore. We need someone who can bring structure, rhythm, and clarity to how information moves across this organization. This is a rare chance to build something that lasts-define the channels, set the cadence, and shape how ISL communicates with itself. Some of the foundations are already in place; others need rethinking, and some don't exist yet. Your experience and instincts will guide what stays, what changes, and what gets built from scratch. So will your willingness to roll up your sleeves and do the work. This amazing opportunity is available for a professional to work from one of our major offices in Edmonton, Calgary, Langley or Burnaby. About the Role: You'd be the first. That's the point. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, you'll own ISL's internal communications-end to end. You'll work closely with the Corporate Communications Specialist and the Marketing and Communications Lead, but this is your domain. You'll establish the systems, manage the channels, write and coordinate the content, and continuously improve how information reaches our people. There's no playbook waiting for you. You'll help write it. ISL's leadership is committed to building this function properly, and they understand the value it brings to a growing organization. What You'll Do Build and own a communications rhythm that works Establish a clear, consistent internal communications cadence so staff know what to expect, when, and where. Right now, information is reactive. You'll make it intentional. Own the intranet-for real ISL Life is our SharePoint-based intranet, and it needs an owner who treats it as a strategic channel, not a filing cabinet. You'll manage the site architecture, keep content current, drive adoption, and ensure it's genuinely useful to staff. You'll handle admin, governance, and training for others who publish to it. Plan, write, coordinate, and deliver From newsletters and town hall prep to engaging messaging and staff communications, you'll manage the plan and do a meaningful portion of the writing yourself. You'll also coordinate with others in the team (designers, writers, subject matter experts) to pull everything together. You will be the final check when it comes to quality control by reviewing and refining content to ensure it is clear, concise, and free from errors. Get out from behind your desk A big part of this job is asking questions-of project managers, sector leads, office teams, and leadership. You'll need to be comfortable picking up the phone, jumping on a Teams call, or walking across the office to get the information you need. People aren't going to come to you. You'll go to them. Build the system, then keep improving it Document the processes you build. Track what's working. Use analytics and feedback to improve how content is reaching staff. Maintain the master communications calendar and service request process. You're who we are looking for if: You're a mid-career communicator who is done waiting for someone to hand you a framework. You're the person who figures it out, builds the thing, and makes it better over time. You: Have 5-8 years of experience in internal or corporate communications-ideally in a professional services, consulting, or similarly complex environment. Know SharePoint deeply. Not ?I've used it.? You can build and manage sites, set governance standards, train others, and use it as a real communications tool. Are a strong, clear writer who can translate complex information into messages that land with different audiences across the organization. Pick up the phone. You're comfortable reaching out to senior leaders, regional teams, and busy subject matter experts to gather what you need. Have built or managed communication systems before including editorial calendars, intranet governance, communications plans, change rollouts. Work well with Microsoft 365 tools including Teams, Viva Engage, and email; and are curious about how to use them better. Have a post-secondary background in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field. Don't need to be told what to do next. You look at a gap and fill it. Assets: Experience in engineering, construction, architecture, or another technical professional services sector. Familiarity with change communications. Who You'll Work With You'll be a core member of a tight-knit, high-energy marketing team that supports all 16 ISL offices across BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Yukon. What ISL Offers We're a 600+ person consulting engineering firm that believes in investing in our people. Here's what comes with the role: Hybrid work with flexibility across 16 offices in Western Canada. Employer-paid health, dental, and paramedical benefits from day one. Life insurance and AD&D options. Healthcare Spending and Lifestyle Option Accounts. Group RRSP with employer matching. Competitive annual bonus. Paid professional development including conferences and memberships. Parental leave top-ups. Shareholder opportunities. 24/7 Employee & Family Assistance Program. A genuinely supportive onboarding and mentorship experience. Depending on your experience level, the salary range (based on a 40-hour work week) is: $70,000 - $80,000 annually
