Job Summary Working under the direction of the Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications, the Communications Coordinator, will be responsible for creating and supporting content development for the digital and print publications for Toronto Humane Society. They will coordinate the development, creation, content, and delivery of Toronto Humane Society's communications including magazines, newsletters, and blog. Job Duties Write clear, engaging, and mission-driven copy for website, newsletters (internal and external), social media, digital publications, etc., ensuring communication reflect inclusive storytelling. Edit and proofread content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency with organizational voice and style. Design visual content, including blog post header images, graphics for digital platforms, and newsletters. Format and manage newsletters using digital marketing platforms. Design and produce the organization's bi-annual digital magazine, ensuring a cohesive approach to layout, imagery, and typography using appropriate publishing tools. Collaborate with program teams, volunteers, and external partners to translate stories and initiatives into compelling content. Ensure all content (written and/or graphic) adheres to Toronto Humane Society Brand Guidelines and aligns with the organization's values including a commitment to Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI). Manage a diverse workload with demanding and/or competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Provide copy or other marketing support for other initiatives as needed. Maintain up-to-date, comprehensive organizational knowledge. Foster, promote, support and drive inclusion, and influence others to promote, embrace and progress Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at Toronto Humane Society. Be an active and engaged member of the Marketing, Communication and Development team, ensuring to maintain a positive attitude and work ethic. Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, and training to further education, skills, and training. Be aware of and work within the regulations of all Toronto Humane Society policies and protocols. Work in compliance with the provisions of the OHSA and its regulations including understanding and adhering to the requirements of the Health and Safety Manual and any other rules and regulations established by Toronto Humane Society. Other duties as required in the day-to-day operation of the organization. Job Requirements Bachelor's degree in Marketing, English, Communications, Journalism or related field. Proven experience in writing and editing, for digital and print platforms, preferably in non-profit or mission-driven contexts. A Minimum of 2 years' experience writing newsletters, magazines, and digital publications. Ability to translate complex organizational information into compelling, inclusive, accessible content. Strong visual design sense and ability to produce cohesive graphics, layouts, and branded materials. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign required; basic skills in Photoshop or Canva for graphics is considered an asset. Experience with marketing platforms (Feathr, Sprout, Trello, Wordpress or similar) would be considered an asset. Strong visual design sense and ability to translate concepts into appealing visuals. Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines. Project coordination skills including managing timelines, stakeholder communication, campaign execution, etc. Understanding of audience engagement, public messaging, and media best practices. Ability to collaborate with cross functional teams, program staff, volunteers, donors, and external stakeholders. Passion for the mission and commitment to clear, impactful communication. Work Conditions Flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Occasional overtime. Operation of desktop computer, phone, lobby television, and peripherals. Extended periods of sitting. Interaction with employees, management, and the public at large. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, weather, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks, animal bites, disease, pathogenic substances, or rude/irate customers.
