THE POSITION
Breakfast Club of Canada is looking for a Communications and Public Relations Advisor. Reporting to the Senior Advisor, Corporate Communications and Public Relations, the incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing the Club’s communications and public relations plans, while ensuring that strategies are aligned with those of other departments. This person also plays a key role within the communications and marketing team and serves as a main contact with the government relations and the programs teams on communications and marketing projects.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct daily media monitoring to identify opportunities and threats related to all of the organization’s activities and prepare media reviews.
- Prepare media coverage reports for the Club, events, and other needs.
- Participate in the development and execution of public relations strategies for the Club, including for major campaigns, ambassadors, government relations, partners, and programs.
- Draft communication materials, including press releases, key messages, speaking notes, etc.
- Act as point of contact for the media and prepare internal spokespersons.
- Work closely with public relations agencies on media relations opportunities.
- Collaborate on the positioning of the President and CEO.
- Collaborate daily with the government relations and programs teams and advise them on communication trends and best practices.
- Support the government relations team with the writing, production, and distribution of communications materials, including communications plans, newsletters, social media posts, and any other relevant content.
- Support the programs and operations team in the development of communications materials, including communication plans, key messages, social media posts, and any other relevant content.
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree in communications, public relations or a related discipline.
- Three (3) years of experience in a similar role.
- Excellent command of written and spoken French and English.
- Extensive experience and skill in writing for various communications platforms.
- Experience working with media monitoring tools.
- Experience working in the social enterprise, non-profit or philanthropy sector (an asset).
- Bilingualism required (French and English), both spoken and written, due to regular communications and meetings with English-speaking colleagues and partners across the country.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
