Job Title: Communications Officer
Location: St. John's, NL

Reporting to the Marketing Manager, the Communications Officer will lead the development and delivery of clear, engaging, and culturally responsive communications that enhance the visibility and impact of the Association for New Canadians (ANC). This role will support the creation of high-quality written, visual, and multimedia content to promote ANC programs, services, and community initiatives.
Working closely with program teams, leadership, and external partners, the Communications Officer will ensure consistent messaging across all platforms while strengthening ANC's brand, supporting organizational goals, and promoting equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in all communications.
Roles and Responsibilities :
- Develop, write, edit, and proofread content for newsletters, websites, social media, reports, promotional materials, media releases, and internal communications
- Design professional and visually engaging materials, including flyers, brochures, posters, presentations, infographics, and social media graphics, in alignment with ANC's branding and accessibility standards
- Assist with the creation of multimedia content such as short videos, animations, photo stories, and digital campaigns to promote ANC programs, services, and community impact
- Manage and maintain ANC's digital content calendar and support the posting, scheduling, and monitoring of social media platforms and the web site
- Ensure all written, visual, and multimedia materials reflect ANC's values, including equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and anti-racism
- Collaborate with program teams and leadership to develop communication plans for events, campaigns, and organizational initiatives
- Monitor digital communication trends and engagement metrics to continuously improve communication effectiveness
- Maintain organized records of communication materials, digital assets, and content archives
- Building and maintaining effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and teams to ensure any content writing requests are fulfilled without errors or misinformation
- Monitoring the brand reputation and discussions relating to the organization in media spaces while being able to respond to audiences on time
Qualifications and Experience :
- Diploma or Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Graphic Design, Journalism, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a communications or marketing role (non-profit or settlement sector experience is an asset)
- Proven experience in content writing, graphic design, and use of digital design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva)
- Experience with multimedia content creation is an asset
- Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills
- Commitment to cultural sensitivity and ANC's mission of supporting newcomers
Conditions of Employment:
- Legal authorization to work in Canada
- Flexible to work outside of core hours (Monday-Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm)
- Valid class 5 NL driver's license and daily access to a personal vehicle is
- Ability to travel is
- Position is subject to a satisfactory Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary
