About the Opportunity

The District of Lake Country has an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time Communications Lead, based in Lake Country, BC.

Reporting to the Senior Advisor, Intergovernmental Relations, the primary responsibility of the Communication Lead is to coordinate and implement the District's communications and public engagement initiatives to enhance transparency, strengthen community relationships and promote awareness of Council's strategic priorities and District programs. The Communication Lead provides leadership and mentorship to the communications team and oversees the development of creative content across all platforms including written, digital and video formats.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee day to day operations, workflows, and project delivery to maintain quality and timeliness;
  • Advise on strategic communications planning and execution across the organization ensuring all communications comply with District branding, visual identity and accessibility standards;
  • Act as a media liaison;
  • Design a variety of communication collateral for various departments;
  • Act as the Public Information Officer at the Central Okanagan Regional Emergency Operation Centre;
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of the District of Lake Country Council and Senior Leadership Team.

More About You

To qualify for this role, you must have a degree in Communications, Graphic Design, Journalism, Business Administration or a related field of study and a minimum of five years' work experience, with two years in a supervisory role, preferably in a government-related setting. IAP2 Canada training in Public Participation & Engagement Solutions is required. A valid BC Drivers License is also required.

As our ideal candidate, you have sound knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Microsoft Office and website content management systems. You have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to tactfully and professionally respond to internal and external inquiries. You also have strong creative, organizational, research and time management skills. A sound knowledge of District bylaws, policies, programs and service levels would be considered an asset. Above all, we value a collaborative attitude with the ability to build positive and productive working relationships with employees and the public.
