RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Director, the Fundraising Officer – Philanthropic Development will actively participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of direct, major and planned giving campaigns. The Officer’s field of activity will vary according to the department’s work plan. 

The Officer’s work will enable the Organization to develop its target clientele, and initiate prospecting, loyalty, recognition and accountability activities. The Officer will maintain ongoing relationships with current and potential donors. 

In collaboration with management, the Officer will actively participate in developing the philanthropic development plan and its evaluation in connection with the strategic plan.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of his/her annual work plan, as well as that of their department, in line with the objectives set out in the Organization’s strategic plan.
  • Identify and diversify new sources of revenue to contribute (foundations, private enterprises etc) to the Organization’s growth;
  • Contribute to and participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of the various campaigns set out in the department’s operating plan, for example:
  • Develop, plan and implement mass solicitation strategies, including postal and digital solicitations, as well as strategies to further develop the monthly giving program (Share Year-Round);
  • Develop and set up strategies to solicit major gifts from potential donors, as well as from the general public and other target clienteles; including religious communities and Catholic milieux.
  • Analyze the database and target donors likely to be interested in planned giving.
  • Prepare, organize and conduct information sessions on the planned giving program for potential donors;
  • Assist and advise donors on planned giving products, and follow up on appropriate files (e.g., estate successions and others);
  • Develop and maintain regular and privileged relationships with current and potential donors in a context of information exchange, recognition and accountability;
  • Organize events and set up recognition and loyalty programs for donors and members of the Organization;
  • Develop and maintain links with other organizations, foundations, institutions and networks where it might be possible to recruit donors;
  • Participate in or represent the Organization at meetings, training sessions or information activities regarding philanthropic development activities, and work in collaboration with other departments of the Organization in collecting information required to carry out their mandate;
  • Analyze the results of the various campaigns carried out by the Organization, with particular attention focused on gaps between objectives targeted and results achieved, based on the data compiled and the statistics produced, and then identify strategies for their subsequent optimization.
  • Regularly monitoring the situation to ensure that best practices and trends in the philanthropic field are understood and applied.

REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, social sciences, communications, marketing, administration or equivalent

Languages

  • Fluency in French and English, both spoken and written
  • Ability to compose and revise texts in both languages

Software and computer programs

  • Mastery of the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Knowledge of a database software application (Salesforce — an asset) 

Experience

  • Four years of relevant experience in philanthropic development including major and planned gifts.
  • Experience in a non-profit organization, working with volunteers or donors

Specific knowledge

  • Excellent knowledge of pan-Canadian legislation encompassing fundraising
  • Good knowledge of the Privacy Act
  • Good knowledge of Canadian social, economic, political, religious and cultural issues
  • Good knowledge of international development issues
  • Knowledge of the Church and its commitment to social justice and international development.
