AUPE is seeking a Manager of Communications to lead a fast-moving, high-impact department at the center of a complex labour environment. This role requires an experienced communications professional with strong judgment, speed, and precision. You will guide internal and external communications, strengthen AUPE's digital presence, and ensure AUPE's voice is clear, consistent, and strategic across all channels.

  • Experience working in a volatile labour environment. Union experience in a member-driven, action-oriented model is strongly preferred.
  • A strong understanding of when to move quickly and when to slow down to ensure accuracy and alignment with organizational strategy.
  • Proven ability to translate organizational strategies, goals, and priorities into practical, engaging, member-centric education.
  • Demonstrated success leading busy, diverse teams in high-pressure environments.
  • Confidence assigning work, managing timelines, facilitating direct conversations, coaching staff, and resolving conflict constructively.

Scope and Key Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize and triage communications based on urgency, importance, and organizational impact.
  • Work closely with the Executive and Management team to ensure all internal and external messaging aligns with AUPE's strategies, goals, and priorities.
  • Ensure AUPE's voice is visible, timely, and effective within the media cycle.
  • Oversee internal and external communications, including media releases, member updates, and print and digital campaigns.
  • Lead and manage AUPE's online platforms, social media channels, and overall digital presence.
