The Association of Independent Schools and Colleges in Alberta's mandate is to promote and empower independent schools in Alberta. AISCA serves as the voice of independent schools and Early Childhood Services operators, representing over 200 members and more than 56,000 students.

The Co-Executive Director (Public Affairs & Government Relations) provides senior leadership for AISCA's advocacy, government relations, media engagement, and external stakeholder work. This role operates within a shared leadership model, working in equal partnership with the current Executive Director, who will be responsible for Member Services & Professional Practice. This role reports to the AISCA Board of Directors.

Key Focus Areas

  • Lead AISCA's government relations, advocacy, and public affairs strategy
  • Serve as AISCA's primary spokesperson with government, media, and external stakeholders
  • Build and maintain relationships with MLAs, Ministers, senior officials, and municipal leaders
  • Represent AISCA in consultations, advocacy forums, and sector partnerships
  • Oversee public communications, media relations, and issues management
  • Support and strengthen member advocacy efforts
  • Conduct external environmental scanning and advise the Board on emerging risks and opportunities
  • Share joint responsibility for strategic planning, Board reporting, staff leadership, and organizational risk management

Leadership & Governance

  • The Co-Executive Directors are jointly accountable to the AISCA Board
  • Each Co-ED has primary authority within their functional portfolio
  • The role requires strong collaboration, judgment, and alignment within a co-leadership structure

Qualifications:

  • experience in government relations, advocacy, public affairs, or political strategy
  • Strong understanding of public policy and stakeholder engagement
  • Proven leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Interested in working effectively within a co-leadership model
  • Experience in education or the not-for-profit sector is an asset

Employment Details

  • Start Date: September 1st, 2026
  • FTE: Full-time preferred;
0.6-1.0 FTE considered
  • Salary:
$130,000-$150,000, commensurate with experience and FTE
