The Opportunity

Secret City Records is looking to hire a full-time Marketing Director to lead our international marketing efforts across artists and releases throughout the calendar year, as well as supervising the Marketing department at Secret City Records. The Marketing Director acts as one of the primary point of contact for artists and/or artist management and as Project Lead for the global campaigns with the internal and external teams throughout the planning, activation, and review process. The Marketing Director’s goal is to drive, execute, coordinate, communicate and deliver end to end actions on international album campaigns to ensure successful completion with demonstrable results. This role is equal parts creative, analytical, and commercial. The Marketing Director develops the thorough and detailed marketing plan for each release and develops, executes and implements all the creative marketing ideas with the internal and external teams. The role also provides clear and consistent communication as well as facilitates the flow of information related to projects. The Marketing Director also oversees the marketing department with a collaborative, positive and inspiring leadership style. This position could be based in Montreal, QC at Secret City’s office or remote depending on the location of the chosen candidate. It reports to the General Manager. 

Candidate Requirements

Past experience in a similar role is required, as well as an excellent understanding of the music industry and the ability to engage with and learn about our artists and the campaigns we are working on. The Marketing Director is an ambitious, highly performing individual who likes to get things done. The Marketing Director has a skillset based heavily in digital and social media marketing, promotion, sales, data analytics as well as management and leadership. The role understands how to market music online, how to engage and build audiences and how to leverage opportunities to connect impact points in order to get successful results. A detail-oriented person with an impeccable and thorough review process. An organized multi-tasker who knows how to effectively prioritize a full workload. An effective, inspiring leader working within teams operating in a fast-paced environment. A natural relationship-builder with strong interpersonal skills to drive a marketing team to success.

·       Must appreciate the artists and music that Secret City releases and be invested in the mission to develop careers over the long-term through dedication, hard work, and commitment.

·       5+ years music industry experience minimum in a similar role.

·       Strong experience coordinating album campaigns across multiple territories is a must.

·       Strong knowledge and competency in digital, social media marketing and data analytics in the music sphere is a must.

·       Proven ability to lead, inspire, and develop high-performing marketing teams, setting clear goals, expectations, and standards of excellence

·       Strong people manager with experience in coaching, mentoring, and performance management, helping team members grow both creatively and professionally

·       Confident decision-maker who can set direction, prioritize effectively, and take ownership in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

·       Highly collaborative leader who builds trusting relationships across internal and external partners (creative, sales, digital, commercial, touring, management)

·       Comfortable managing multiple stakeholders, aligning creative vision with commercial objectives

·       Clear and persuasive communicator, able to translate strategy into actionable plans and motivate teams around shared goals

·       Commercially astute leader who understands budget ownership, forecasting, and ROI, and makes informed trade-offs between creativity and performance

·       Able to balance hands-on execution with high-level strategic thinking, knowing when to step in and when to empower the team

·       Calm and resilient under pressure, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, shifting priorities, and tight release timelines

·       Values diversity of thought and fosters an inclusive, supportive team culture where ideas are challenged constructively

·       Proactive problem-solver who encourages accountability, autonomy, and continuous improvement

·       Skills to inspire project team to achieve goals through effective leadership and be the primary point of contact for all extended and external project team members.

·       Capability to generate and continuously maintain reporting data for respective projects, reporting to upper management as necessary.

·       Bilingual (EN/FR) with excellent oral and written communication skills is preferred.

·       Arts and/or Business education University level preferred.
