About the Festival

The Dutch Cultural Association of BC (DutchBC) is proud to present the 2nd Annual Dutch Film Festival, taking place in Vancouver from March 26-31, 2026. This exciting week-long event showcases the best of Dutch cinema, including dramatic features, romantic comedies, documentaries, art house, and events.

With 14 films, 11 events, and screenings across 4 Vancouver venues (Cinematheque, SFU Vancouver, Roodenburg Design, Voor Urban Labs). This year's festival features a strong lineup of North American premieres, as well as live discussions with filmmakers from Suriname and the Netherlands.

DutchBC fosters and celebrates Dutch culture within British Columbia through organizing events and partnerships. With a community of over 200,000 individuals, DutchBC serves as a hub for strengthening cultural ties and fostering collaboration. By hosting enriching cultural events and creating meaningful connections, we aim to enhance the shared experiences of the Dutch diaspora in Greater Vancouver and beyond.

The Role

We are seeking a creative and proactive Freelance Marketing Coordinator to lead publicity and social media efforts for the festival. The Festival is produced by volunteers and so you will be working to help their work and outcomes be a success measured by ticket sales and media coverage. Working closely with these Dutch BC volunteers, designers, and stakeholders, you will drive awareness, build audience engagement, and ensure the festival tickets sell and we reach new audiences with diverse media coverage across Vancouver.

This is a five-week contract ideal for an emerging marketing professional with a passion for film and cultural events. Graphic design, video production, print materials distribution, and ticketing website are handled by volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

Publicity & Media Relations

  • Prepare and distribute the official film festival media release.
  • Implement our 2026 Festival publicity plan that has already been prepared by the Festival team
  • Manage media inquiries and follow up with local online, radio, and print media outlets to secure interviews, reviews, and feature stories.

Social Media & Content Creation

  • Develop, schedule, and publish engaging content across Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
  • Coordinate with our video editor who will already be creating social videos for each event.
  • Create a content calendar to ensure consistent promotion leading up to and during the festival.
  • Monitor social media channels, engage with followers, and respond to comments/messages.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in marketing, communications, or social media management (experience in arts, culture, or film is a strong asset).
  • Proven track record of executing successful marketing campaigns.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn) and scheduling tools.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of or interest in Dutch culture is a plus, but not required.

Term & Compensation

  • Contract Period: February 24 - March 31, 2026 (5 weeks)
  • Total Compensation: $1,400 CAD

  • $700 on or around March 10, 2026
  • $700 on or around March 31, 2026
  • Time Commitment: This contract is based on a rate equivalent to BC minimum wage for the purpose of calculating hours, reflecting approximately 10-12 hours per week.
