The Town of Drayton Valley is seeking a strategic, innovative Communications Manager to lead our corporate communications, media relations, public engagement, and marketing initiatives. This role serves as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and departments across the organization.

As Communications Manager, you will:
Develop and lead corporate communications, marketing, and engagement strategies
Provide strategic communications advice to senior leadership, and all Town departments
Manage media relations
Create compelling content across digital, print, social media, and web platforms
Lead communications planning for major projects, initiatives, and community engagement activities
Monitor emerging issues and provide proactive issues management support
Support emergency and crisis communications efforts, including serving as a Public Information Officer during emergencies
Championing organizational priorities and creating awareness on various programs, initiatives and projects
We're looking for a communications professional who combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field
- Five (5) or more years of progressive communications experience, including leadership or management responsibilities
- Exceptional writing, editing, media relations, and public speaking skills
- Experience developing communications plans, campaigns, and stakeholder engagement initiatives
- Strong project management and organizational abilities
- The confidence to navigate sensitive issues with professionalism, discretion, and political awareness
- Experience using social media platforms, content management systems, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite
- A collaborative approach and the ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders
Assets
- Municipal or public-sector experience
- Knowledge of the Municipal Government Act (MGA)
- Public engagement experience
- ICS 300 certification
- Emergency management or crisis communications experience
